– We must keep our country one regardless of faith, ethnicity
Nigerians have been urged to fight hard to keep the country one and undivided regardless of faith, religion and ethnicity.
The call was made today, Sunday, July 14 by Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo at the The 4th National Discourse of The Companion.
Prof Osinbajo, a devout Christian and Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), deferred going for church services and chose to spend his Sunday with the Muslim community.
Hundreds of Muslim faithful who thronged the Main Auditorium of the University of Lagos, the venue of the programme, gave the Vice President a standing ovation as he was ushered in.
Prof Osinbajo, who was the Keynote Speaker of the discourse with the theme, “Food Security: Unleashing Nigeria’s Natural Potential for Self Sufficiency”, took the opportunity of the audience, mainly Muslims, to preach on the need for Nigerians, irrespective of their religion, to keep the country united.
Before going into the theme proper, the Vice President said, “this country will be great for all of us if we have prepared to work as one country, regardless of faith, religion and ethnicity and all other persuasions and considerations. We must keep our country one and we must fight very hard to keep this country united. Nothing should divide us.”
