The Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Lagos state chapter through its Amirah, Dr Haleemah Egberongbe said the collaboration for the 2020 World Hijab Day with other Muslim organisations during this period is to portray the importance of modest dressing particularly the Hijab.
FOMWAN is one of the foremost Muslim Women Organisation in Nigeria that has been advocating for Muslim girls’ education and improvement of Muslim women status in the society, among other laudable projects for her members across the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja.
Dr Egberongbe said, “Modest dressing as we all know gives us the opportunity to present ourselves as decent and humble citizens. This is what we want for our daughters, sisters and mothers, particularly Muslim women in Nigeria.
The Deputy Librarian at the University of Lagos called on the government officials and administrators of private establishments to respect and engage women in Hijab without discrimination, adding that, “they cover their heads to please their Creator who has ordered them to do so. Hence, they shouldn’t be discriminated against on the basis of the attire of honour. They should be accommodated and judged based on their productivity.”
