Foundation conducts free medical outreach in Makoko, Lagos

Jhhh

No fewer than 300 residents of Makoko, a remote community of Lagos State, benefited from the medical outreach organised by Tranquil Heart Foundation.

The outreach, a collaborative effort with the Human Concern Foundation International (HCFI) witnessed the residents trooping out in their numbers to get examined on their Blood Pressure (BP), Body Mass Index (BMI), Urinalysis, Blood Sugar, Hepatitis and others.

Muslim News findings revealed that the event also featured medical consultation and administering of drugs to the residents.

Administration of drugs by the official of the Foundation

Dr Abdul Wahab Egbetongbe, the Team Lead, while speaking with Muslim News, noted that the outreach was borne out of the need to give back to society following outcry of seeming government inaction.

“The rationale behind this outreach is that most times, there are complaints that the government does not provide the basics but we thought of what can we as medical and non-medical Professionals, to give back to the society and we came up with this”

According to him, “Tranquil Heart Foundation is a Non-governmental Organisation and one of the programmes we do is to have medical outreach at different parts of the state.

“Last year we were at Imota and now we are at Makoko and we are planning to do that yearly to go to areas where health services are needed, that are without adequate access to medical services.

“We try to pick those areas and see what we can do for the community and give back to the society. We formed a medical outreach where we can visit them, do medical check ups and tests, do consultation and investigation and give them drugs.

“On an annual basis, we have series of programmes and projects and this is one of them. Next year, we are looking at communities of low income earners that can’t afford hospital bills and have medical conditions.

“Next year we are considering a bigger event and an area that would be beneficial. We are thinking of areas like Ajegunle, Agbowa, Epe”, he emphasised.

Dr Egbetongbe further called on the elites in the society to support the programmes embarked upon by the foundation.

“The call to them is to participate in things like this and support it in order to reduce the burden on the society and mortality rate,” he added.

Established in 2011, Tranquil Heart Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) comprised of medical and non-medical professionals who are concerned with the well being and medical alertness of citizens, especially the financially less-privileged.

Since inception, the Foundation has granted free medical checkup and consultation through its outreach programmes to over 2000 Lagosians with the hope of expanding its scope to other States.
