As part of its activities for the World Hijab Day 2020, Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) has concluded plans to observe special jumah services tomorrow, Friday at some selected schools across the country.
The National Women Affairs Secretary of the Nigeria’s leading Muslim Prayer group, Alhaja Suwebat Kupolati made the disclosure during the Coalition of Muslim Organisations press conference held in commemoration of the forthcoming Hijab Solidarity walk.
Alhaja Kupolati said, “We have set aside series of activities to commemorate the World Hijab Day 2020. We have written letters to some selected secondary schools. Our representatives would go to Muslim schools across Nigeria to perform Jum’aat prayer in those schools.
“After the prayer, we are going to sensitise the female students on the significance of wearing the Hijab. This will enable NASFAT Women and Youth Sisters to engage, motivate and encourage them. It is also meant to remind them why they should always feel comfortable in Hijab,” she said.
According to Alhaja Kupolati, “Later on Friday, we will be having a live discussion on Twitter with notable hijab ambassadors on the essence of Hijab. Those who are active on twitter can join us by 4:15pm. They shall write a maximum of 5 words to describe what hijab is to them e.g. “My Hijab, My pride”, and include our tag #NASFAThijabmypride.”
In an interview with Muslim News, the Deputy Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Retrd.) said the society will provide a platform for young Muslimahs to share their Hijab stories, through the #MyHijabStory competition, saying that the best three Hijab stories will be handsomely rewarded.
“We also have as part of our activities for the WHD the #MyHijabStory. I am sure some of us would have been seeing the hashtag on NASFAT Women social media platforms. We have asked female Muslims between the ages of 12 and 25 years to forward videos on MyHijabStory to us.
“The Top 10 videos will be rated based on content, reach and number of likes. Then, a selection committee will then select the top 3 videos based on content, relevance, originality and impact. Submission of entries closed on 27th January and winners will be announced on the 1st of February. Prizes for the Top 3 winners are a Laptop, a Tablet and a Smartphone respectively.
“We have also asked our branches across the country to participate in the #WalkForHijab on Saturday, February 1st not only in Lagos and Ogun States, but across all the branches of NASFAT in Nigeria. Also, we have invited a special guest lecturer to educate our women on the use of Hijab which would come up on Sunday, 2nd of February 2020.
Muslim News learnt that there would be a special lecture at the the society’s national headquarters on Sunday, February 2nd at Alausa for female members, to be coordinated by Hajiah Onike-Azeez, with similar lecture on the significance of hijab which will hold in NASFAT branches and groups on Sunday, 2nd of February, 2020.

According to her, “we have not left the youths out of this. The women are collaborating with the youths to celebrate this day and that’s why we have the NASFAT Youth Ameerah, Hajiah Kafayat Oyewo-Oyelere here with us as part of the Coalition.
“Also, we have the chairman, Coordinator, Hijab Committee, Hajia Haleemat Omobola Ojediran and the immediate past Women Affairs Secretary, Hajiah Omolara Mumuni who is here to give us some sort of support.
“We also have asked the Youth Wing of NASFAT across branches to organise lectures for the children during the Assalatu period to tell them the significance of wearing the Hijab.
While speaking with Muslim News, Alhaja Kupolati noted that Hijab is an important apparel for Muslim women.
“We should continue to teach our children at tender age to wear Hijab so they can be used to it. Oftentimes, mothers do not encourage their children and that’s why some children / young ones are finding it difficult to imbibe the Hijab.
“We want to solicit for our Muslim women to be allowed to adorn themselves with Hijab wherever and whenever they want to either at work places, official functions, social functions, schools etc
