Muslim worshipper stabbed in neck at London’s Regent’s Park mosque

London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed the man who stabbed the Muslim worshipper was arrested

A 29-year-old attacker stabbed a Muslim worshipper in the neck in Regent’s Park mosque in central London on Thursday afternoon.

A victim in his 70s was taken to hospital after he was stabbed during afternoon prayers, where London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed his injuries were “non-life threatening”.

Images posted online showed police pinning down the suspected attacker in the middle of the prayer hall at Regent’s Park mosque.

Footage also showed a knife near the man who attacked the worshipper.

The police said the unidentified attacker was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

The director-general of the Regent’s Park Mosque Ahmad al-Dubyan confirmed that the attack took place “during” the afternoon prayers.

“During afternoon prayers, someone attacked the caller of the adhan with a knife on the side of his neck and the police and ambulance were called immediately,” Dubyan told Middle East Eye.

“The man who did the attack was with us inside the mosque.”

The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the attack and described the attacks as “deeply distressing” and said it will be “reissuing” safety advice for mosques across the UK.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was “deeply saddened” by the incident and said his “thoughts are with the victims and those affected.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan also said he was “deeply concerned by the attack” and said his thoughts are with the “victim and his family”.
