Following the earlier announcement of the governments of Borno, Gombe and Zamfara, two other states in the Northern part of Nigeria have also lifted ban on religious gathering in preparation for the Eid al Fitr – felicitation for the termination of Ramadan fast.
This, according to them, is in a bid to allow Muslims bask in the euphoria of Eid, as religious activities would be performed under strict observance of hygiene rules and social distancing.
The holy month of Ramadan is gradually coming to an end, with less than four days to go, Muslim News authoritatively confirms.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad III, has ordered Muslims to look for the crescent of Shawwal on Friday, May 22 when the Ramadan fast would have completed 29.
In a statement, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State said, in a week’s time, when all the protective equipments must have been provided for the citizens, the state may relax restrictions on places of worship.
Sule however warned that the lifting of the ban should be with strict adherence to preventive regulations, including physical distancing in various religious places.
Also, in Adamawa, Muslim and Christian faithfuls can now reconvene in their various places of worship, while maintaining preventive regulations, especially the use of hand sanitizers.
Governor Fintiri, through his Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, stated that: “Churches, mosques and the international cattle markets under lockdown can now re-open.”
He however listed conditions that include social distancing with no more than 50 persons at a time, provision of hand sanitisers or handwashing facilities and temperature checks at the point of entry.
Muslim News had earlier reported the resolution of Borno, Gombe and Zamfara state governments to ease the lockdown and allow religious gathering under strict adherence to safety rules.
Meanwhile, as Muslim faithfuls prepare to end the holy month of Ramadan and celebrate Eidul Fitr, more states, especially those in the North, are likely to lift the ban on religious gathering to allow Muslims observe their religious obligation and stock up for the celebrations.
