Ajimobi to be buried in one of his houses today – Oyo Muslim community

▪︎ Urges sympathisers to stay at home if they got no formal invite

After back and forth arguments, agreements and disagreements, arrangements have been concluded to inter the remains of the late former Oyo State governor, Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi at one of his houses in Oyo State, today.

Muslim News earlier reported that the controversies that trailed the choice of the burial site and modalities of the late elder statesman which obviously led to the delay in his burial.

While top members of the family of the deceased chose that their patriarch be buried in his mosque in Ibadan, scholars rose up to clarify to them that such was against Islamic tenets.

Muslim News findings have revealed that  family have concluded plans to observe Janazah (funeral prayer) for the former Governor at Ishaq Ajimobi Central Mosque after which his remains would be interred in one of his houses.

The Chairman, Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaji Kunle Sanni confirmed the news, saying, “Alhamdulilah, the rigmarole  surrounding  where Alhaj  Ishaq Abiola  Ajimobi  would  be buried  has been resolved. Prayers on his remains would  be at Ishaq  Abiola  Ajimobi  Mosque  at 11am.  HE WOULD NOT BE BURIED IN THE MOSQUE. Internment would be in one of his houses which I don’t  have the authority  to mention. If there is need for that, the family would do so.

The Oyo-born Islamic scholar also warned people who are not invited to the Janazah proceedings to stay at home, noting that it was important to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.

“Only few people would be admitted into the Mosque because of the Coronavirus protocol. Let brothers and sisters who have no invitation stay at home and pray for the repose of the soul of this benefactor of the Muslim Ummah.

“If we had our way, he would (have) be buried in one of the Muslim Makbaras (cemeteries) scattered all over Ibadan but that would  be a tall dream. That is where all of us would  wish to be buried. Let us continue  praying that Allah be Merciful  on us and halt this pandemic. Thanks for your  patience  and perseverance,” he added.

Also confirming the development, media aide to the deceased, Mr Bolaji Tunji said that the burial would hold today in strict compliance with safety protocols.

He warned that only invited persons should assemble at the venue of the funeral, while enjoining other sympathisers to follow the proceedings via this link HERE

He wrote: “Following the release of details for the funeral of the immediate past Governor of Oyo state, His Excellency SENATOR ABIOLA AJIMOBI, the family wishes to reiterate its desire to hold the event in strict compliance with COVID-19 funeral protocols.

“Essentially, only religious clerics who have been invited should assemble at the venue of the funeral, which is the Senator Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque in Oke-Ado.

“Other sympathizers and well-wishers are kindly advised to join the event through the link below to view the live coverage from 12 noon, Sunday, the 28th June, 2020.
