Lagos Muslim Community calls on #EndSARS protestsers to stay focused, negotiate with government

Protesters during Jumat Service at lekki toll gate #EndSARS

The Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS) has called on the #EndSARS protesters to remain focused on their noble cause, saying that utmost caution should be applied in demanding for their rights.

Speaking with some selected journalists including Muslim News on Sunday, MCLS President, Professor Tajudeen Gbadamosi said Muslims in Lagos State have watched keenly the ongoing #EndSARS protest across the country for the past two week.

Prof. Gbadamosi stated that the protest was organised by young men and women, who are protesting against police brutality, extrajudicial killings and other forms of injustices perpetuated by the now disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

He observed that the young protesters have indeed come to a glorious stage having attracted the attention of key organs of government.

According to him, “They have enjoyed the sympathy and support of the masses. They have also attracted the attention of the legislative arm of government at both the federal and state levels. Above all, they have also attracted the attention of the executive arm of government at the state and federal levels. The executive arm of government has taken some actions in line with the articulated demands. Consequently, we can say that we have achieved glory so far.”

Prof. Gbadamosi

He said their struggle for justice in the country is a noble cause, thereby warning them against instigating violence and safeguarding their ranks from interlopers in order not to compromise their glory.

“Demanding for justice is a noble cause. In the light of this, we appeal to the protesters to remain focused on their noble objectives. We also urge them to be cautious lest those who do not identify with their high moral ideals nor share the patriotic objectives of their cause infiltrate their ranks and compromise the glory that has been achieved so far.

“We also urge them to eschew violence in all its forms because violence in any form detracts from the nobility of a cause.”

The President urged the protesting youths to get back to the negotiating table with the government so as to seal agreement on modalities, strategies and proper implementation of their demands.

“We advise them to take advantage of their current glory to consider seriously getting to the negotiating table. This would enable agreement on modalities, strategies and timelines, and this would take us from our glorious stage to ushering in a new and better Nigeria,” he added.

While congratulating the Muslim Community of Lagos State on their arrival to the global terrain, the time has come for the youth of the country to stay and remain focused on correcting ills and obnoxious policies of government at all levels. I like to advise the youth on the very unique challenge that they would face as time goes on taking into consideration of the complexity and diverse nature of the country. The issue of organizational structure must not be approached with kids gloves otherwise politicians would take advantage. And in addressing this, ICT remained the tool for networking. An organogra m that shall recognize from local level, state to federal is the best option for effective participation of the entire youth of the country. Best expert in Management consultancy among the youth needs to volunteer thier services for this noble cause. God almighty will see them through. Amen

Sincere thanks to the writer for this wonderful tribute to Sheikh Idoko. Where do you begin to write about this great man and
soldier of Islam? We have lost a father, a great general and pillar of islam and its quite difficult to bear. May Allah Subhanahu wa taalla pardon his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatu Firdausi. He was an erudite scholar, magnificent man yet very humble. Thru my first and second degrees in Engineering in Nsukka,I really benefited from his fatherly care and advice. No matter how difficult situations are,he would solve it. If you go to him in tears, you must surely come back smiling and cheerful.Very humorous and full of wisdom and knowledge.Allah really endowed Sheikh Idoko with so many gifts. We missed our chief imam so dearly and may Allah(swt) be pleased with him and comfort his family.
