Muslim Students protest proposed demolition of Mosque in Benue school, call for govt intervention

The Muslim Students Society (MSS) of the Old Boys Association of Government Secondary School (GSS), Otukpo, Benue State, has protested against the proposed demolition contained in a notice of a mosque in the school’s premises.

But, the state government through the ministry of Education on Tuesday, claimed that the matter has been resolved amicably.

In a letter addressed to the state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof Dennis Ityavyar, the association noted that the Urban Development Board (UDB) on January 20, 2021, marked the mosque which was recently renovated by it (MSS) for demolition.

“Members of the Muslim Students Society (MSS) of the Old Boys Association of Government Secondary School, Otukpo, write to protest the proposed/rumoured demolition of the school mosque.

“We urge the commissioner to stop the proposed/rumoured destruction of the renovated mosque at GSS, Otukpo, and restore the principal to the position because other than allowing the renovation of the mosque, he was not given a penny nor contracted to handle the project,” the association stated in the letter.

They added that the mosque was originally built 42 years ago, stressing that, “Owing to the dilapidated nature of the mosque, we, the MSS of the Old Boys Association of GSS, Otukpo, made application to renovate the mosque.”

On his part, the General Manager of UDB, Dr Saint Gbilekaa, admitted to have sighted the petition copied to his office.

  1. I pray sincerely that those in charge honour their words by not demolishing it
May Alah reward those who renovated the mosque with goodness of both worlds

  2. The prompt response to the protest by the authority to resolve the likely lingering crisis was a square peg in a round hole, kudos to the mss in the school and thanks to the authority for taking bull by the horn. JAZZAKALAH-KHAIRAN, AMEEN 🙏🙏🙏 NA YA-ALLAH.
