A Coalition of Muslim organisations in Nigeria have concluded plans to hold one of the biggest religious gatherings of 2021, World Hijab Day (WHD).
Unlike previous years, the 2021 edition with the theme, #EndHijabophobia will be held virtually on Sunday and Monday, January 31 and February 1 respectively.
Muslim News findings revealed that the organisers — about 13 Muslim bodies who form the Coalition, have decided to replace the usual in-person event with an all virtual set of activities in keeping the protocols of preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The long awaited events, which commence at 10am on both days, would be streamed live on various social media platforms.
The Convener, Barrister Mutiat Orolu-Balogun of Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative said this year’s #WHD will begin on Sunday with an e-rally, noting that, “there will also be a panel discussion on the theme, End Hijabophobia, with a key note address which focuses on the effects of Hijabophobia on social, political and economic development of Nigeria.
“It will be delivered by the Director, Legal Services of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. AbdulWahab Oyedokun.
“Line up of the panellists include an Associate Professor at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Modinah AbdurRaheem; Assistant Director Legal (Head of Legal Unit) at the Lagos State Local Government Commission, Odi-Olowo LCDA, Barr. Modinat Solate and Director, Lagos State Government Education District IV, Dr Shereefah Yusuf with special appearance of Barr. Aisha Zubair-Sanni and Miss Abeedat Alabi.”

“On Monday, the D-Day, some select media houses including Muslim News have been invited by the Coalition to attend the virtual press conference;” Bar. Orolu-Balogun stated.
The Coalition comprised of notable Islamic organisations in Nigeria such as Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN); Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit; Al-Muminaat: The Believing Women Organisation; Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative, Ansarudeen Youth of Nigeria (ADYAN), Guild of Muslim Professionals (GMP) and Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC).
Others are, Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque ( LSCCM), Muslim Rights Concern ( MURIC), Pristine Cactus Foundation, Criterion, International Muslim Women Union (IMWU), NACOMYO and Pure Heart Foundation (PHF) Lagos, among others.
