Hisbah Commission replies critics over Yusuf Buhari’s fiancee bridal shower gown, says she is not above the law

Hisbah Commission for the Promotion of Islamic Teachings in Kano State has reacted to the viral bridal shower picture of Zahra the daughter of Emir of Bichi and fiancee of Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s president.

Muslim News findings revealed that the two loverbirds had preparatory to their nikkah (solemnization) lined up a number of events, which included the bridal shower.

However, the bridal shower done by President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter-in-law has generated mixed reactions due mainly to the revealing nature of the dress she wore.

Rather than shading her for wearing a bare chest gown, without Hijab, which is against the Islamic dress code for Muslim Women, the critics – majorly non-Muslims from a section of the country, dragged the religious corps into the issue, saying Hisbah has not been just in administering the Shariah principles.

They noted that Hisbah would have wielded the big stick if a less privileged lady had dressed the way the Emir of Bichi’s daughter did for her bridal shower.

The critics – who also attempted albeit unsuccessfully to use the excuse of the dress to try to ridicule the Shariah also accused Hisbah of hypocrisy for not arresting Zahra, whose Nikkah is slated for August 20, 2021.

In his reaction, Hisbah commander Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina told the BBC Pidgin that the Emir’s daughter is not above the law and should lead by example if she wants to be blessed in her marriage.

Ibn Sina also criticized those spreading the photos and videos of Zahra Bayero in the dress, saying it’s also wrong to spread such images.

Meanwhile, other Facebook users have lambasted the critics for calling on Hisbah to arrest Zahra, President Buhari’s daughter in-law.

Eseoghene Al-Faruq Ohwojeheri though not justifying the bride’s revealing dress, carpeted the critics, saying, “I don’t really see why Hisbah is being brought into this. Do they arrest the children of the poor over wedding gown? Why do we love to compare oranges and apples?”

Faruq stated that “poor people’s children get married everyday wearing nonsense. So you mean Hisbah should only arrest the rich? If you want them to add immoral wedding gown to the crimes they arrest for then please say so. Don’t compare two totally different things”

As for the ‘liberal Muslims’ who joined their non-Muslims counterparts to ridicule Hisbah, another social media user, Igho Hakeem Ohwojeheri asked, “So you want hisbah to swiftly act on a photo, invade the lady’s house and arrest her because of her dressing?

“How many times previously have you heard hisbah arrested any woman in Kano, poor, middle class or rich because she was inappropriately dressed in her wedding or pre-wedding photos? Are you not creating your standard that only applies to the rich.” Read more HERE
