– Says it’s an integral part of Islam

– Urges members to support qualified Muslims to attain political positions

The Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria, MUSWEN, has called on Muslims, particularly of southwest Nigeria to show more interest in politics and endeavour to participate more actively in the ongoing democratic process.

MUSWEN, an umbrella body for Muslims in southwest charged Muslims to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

In a statement issued at the end of its General Purpose Committee (GPC) meeting and signed by the Executive Secretary, Prof. Muslih Yahya, the Ummah posited that politics and governance are definitely integral parts of
our Deen, Islam.

Muslim News findings revealed that General Purpose Committee (GPC) is a policy-making organ of MUSWEN, and the meeting held on Sunday May 8, 2022, had an overview of the goings-on in the Nigerian political setting.

MUSWEN argued that Islam is a complete way of life that touches on all aspects of human living no matter how trivial, adding that, Muslims, as the vicegerents of Allah on earth are the agents of good change and therefore should show interest in how the state is being governed.

The southwest Muslim body therefore encouraged its members across Nigeria to participate actively in the political process leading to the 2023 general elections by joining and participating in the activities of various political parties.

“Ensuring that everyone of voting age obtain their voter’s card promptly. Accepting nominations for political offices. Support the ambition of qualified fellow Muslims to attain political positions. Voting individuals of proven integrity into political Offices,” the release, read, in part.
