The Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Professor (Sheikh) Ibrahim Maqari, has denied news flying on social media about his appointment as an Imam of Masjid-ul-Haram, Makkah.
Sheikh Maqari said he does not know the origin of the information.
“It is probably a positive and optimistic hope from well-wishers or a case of coincidence of names,” he clarified.
Some blogs had published the news of the appointment, with his picture attached.
One of the posts sighted by Muslim News on the appointment reads: “Professor Sheikh Ibrahim Makarfi has been appointed the Imam of Masjid Haram Mecca. He’s the first black from Africa to attain the post. He’s also the Chief Imam of the National Mosque Abuja.”
Muslim News investigations show that it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
The Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja is Sheikh Ibrahim Maqari, not Sheikh Ibrahim Makarfi as reported.
