Dr. Suleman Afikpo confirmed NAHCON southeast commissioner

Dr. Suleman Agha Afikpo has emerged commissioner representing southeast at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

Afikpo, who hails from Ebonyi State, had his appointment confirmed by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs chaired by Senator Bulkachuwa Adamu on Wednesday, October 5.

Muslim News learnt that Dr. Afikpo would be replacing Alhaji Ibrahim Ogbonnia Amah, the former commissioner who died last year.

NAHCON had announced in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs, Hajiya Fatima Sanda Usara that Alhaji Amah died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on November 30, 2021.

Afikpo, who is replacing Alhaji Amah was until his appointment Director at Global Islamic Research Institute, an NGO in Abuja.

He is a Researcher, Instructor, Professional Course Developer and Islamic Education Consultant.

The new commissioner speaks Arabic, English, Igbo, Hausa.

Some of the leadership roles he has undertaken include: Chairman, Igbo Muslim Forum, Uwani, Enugu; Chairman, South-East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON); General Secretary, Ebonyi State Muslim Community (ESMUCO), Co-ordinator General of Igbo Muslim Forum, among others.

Dr. Afikpo has also served as a member of the Hajj Feeding Committee of NAHCON.

He holds a Bachelors Degree in History and Civilisations from Al-Azhar University, Cairo; Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Maximize Educational Consults, London, UK; Masters in Islamic Studies from The Muslim College London, UK.

Afikpo, a PhD candidate at the College of Arts and Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia, has attended several conferences, seminars and authored articles and books.
