54 years ago, 24 Muslim countries under the aegis of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC met in Morocco in 1969, a month after an arson attack inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque that destroyed parts of the roof and the 800-year-old pulpit of Salahuddin. They vowed to protect the Muslims’ third holiest Mosque from further attacks.
Today, the OIC now has 57-member states from four continents but sadly, with all their potential strength and physical arsenal, they have failed to safeguard the Masjid Al-Aqsa which it had pledged to protect from the outset.
Despite their singular and collective existence, the Zionist occupation forces keep desecrating Al-Aqsa, denying Muslim worshippers access to their mosque, especially in the month of Ramadan. Many of them have been subjected to suffocating poisonous gas and grenade attacks, even in the cause of prayer.
And as the attacks on innocent Palestinians continue every Ramadan, Muslim leaders across the world, as symbolised by the OIC with the Arab leagues, only bark and refuse to bite, with empty condemnations without action, each time the criminal Israeli jingoists launch attacks on innocent Muslims.
Sadly, non-Muslim countries that aren’t even Arabs have shown more solidarity with and support for the Palestinian cause. They do not only condemn, they work the talk and tackled the Israeli imperialistic regime with its allies in the US, UK, France etc without minding whose ox is gored. These countries of conscience have proved to the world they truly have the blood of humanity flowing in their veins. They have used every lawful means, including sports, particularly football to speak up for the suffering Palestinians.
It’s high time the Muslim countries and the Arab League woke from their slumber and form a unified Muslim army that will defend and protect Masjid Al-Aqsa from the terrorist state of Israel. Imagine Pakistani, Iranian, Algerian, Egyptian and Turkiye soldiers in Jerusalem to protect Muslim worshippers in Al-Aqsa? These countries are among the best in military might in the world today. Turkiye for instance, is changing the face of modern warfare with her drone, which has been felt everywhere, except in Aqsa, Jerusalem.
On behalf of all the people of conscience across the world, we at Muslim News Nigeria call on the OIC member states to consider forming a Muslim army as one of the ways towards protecting Aqsa. Enough of condemnations without action.
