The Muslim Corps Association of Nigeria (MCAN), Lagos chapter has felicitated with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on her 50th anniversary, saying the scheme has played a massive role in uniting Nigerian youth.
The Amir (President), Abdullah Adenowo, while speaking after a Special Jumat held on Friday at Agege Central Mosque to commemorate the Scheme, said NYSC has in the last fifty years united Nigerian youths, who left the setting of their birth and upbringing to witness and appreciate the ethnic, cultural and religious diversity of the Nation, in another city.
He further stated, “The contribution of NYSC to foster growth and development of the Nigerian youth cannot be overstated and urged the youth to be law abiding and make deliberate efforts for the unity, growth, and development of the Nation”.
He called on corps members to engage with one another during their service year and be part of the efforts towards national unity and progress.
In a statement by the PRO, “The Muslim Corps members in Lagos joined Nigerians to celebrate a scheme that has united millions of Nigerian youth in the last 50 years. No doubt, there were some excellent intentions behind the creation of NYSC, and we must admit that it has had a positive influence on the lives of Nigerians”.
He further stated that “Without being sentimental, NYSC has been an avenue for true service to the fatherland for young Nigerians.
He implored the NYSC to continue promoting national unity among our youth of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
