Türkiye Diyanet Foundation supports water accessibility for Kano, Sokoto communities

Within the framework of its “A Drop of Life” campaign, Türkiye Diyanet Foundation (TDV) has opened four water wells and foundation fountains in Nigeria’s Kano and Sokoto states to address water access issues faced by the local population.

The ceremony held on the occasion of the inauguration of 4 water wells and fountains built in Kano and Sokoto states was attended by TDV General Manager İzani Turan, TDV Abuja Religious Services Counselor Hüseyin Ortaç, regional chiefs, religious officials, and many people.

At the ceremony in Sokoto state, TDV General Manager Turan stated that TDV inherited the fountains from the Ottoman period and opened water wells and foundation fountains all over the world.

Turan mentioned that with the aid sent by Turkish donors, each water well built in Nigeria will benefit approximately 8,000 people.

Turan explained that TDV has opened 23 water wells and fountains in Nigeria so far, saying, “We have come to meet with our brothers and sisters who share the same heart with us, even though our colors and languages may be different. We have come to deliver water to them, to share the civilization of water with these brothers.”

Sokoto State’s Lagau regional chief, Alhaji Halliru Boyi Marafa, mentioned that the local people in the region have had to walk long distances every day to access water. However, starting from today, they will have easier access to clean water.

Marafa emphasized the importance of the water well for the local community and stated that they would take care of the well as if it were their own precious possession.

Marafa expressed his gratitude to Türkiye and Turkish donors for the aid provided.

Each water well has 15 taps, solar panels, and a 10,000-liter water tank.

Thanks to the provided service, the region will experience a reduction in waterborne diseases resulting from contaminated drinking water and somewhat improved hygiene conditions due to the challenges in accessing water.
