Nigerian journalist holds lone rally at Lagos beach to protest bombardment of Gaza

– Calls for end to Israel bombardment of Gaza

A Nigerian journalist and the publisher of Muslim News Nigeria, Rasheed Abubakar staged a one-man solidarity rally at the popular Oniru Beach in Lagos in support of Palestine, calling for an end to Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

The journalist, who wore a branded Palestinian vest with keffiyeh, was seen at the busy beach during the Xmas period flying the Palestinian flag while riding a horse.

He was chanting slogans including “Free palestine”, “Long Live Gaza”, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be Free”, as he rode the horse around the beach for people to see him.

The newspaper posted some of the pictures on its social media handles with the caption credited to its publisher.

“Like our brave pious predecessors, in the build of our great fearless forebearers, I marched, much to the awe of onlookers, every step resounding the cries of the helpless children murdered daily in #Gaza by the blood-thirsty zionists. I marched in solidarity with the humane voices that have been clamouring for the freedom of the #Palestinian people. I wish I could march my horse to every sand on earth for everyone to see the plight of Palestinians as the world looks on while generations are dragged into extinction. Every sane mind now understands that this isn’t a religious struggle as people of various religions are massacred in Palestine daily. From the river to the sea, we remain undeterred and hopeful; #Palestine will be free.”

Abubakar is the publisher of Muslim News, Nigeria’s leading and most authoritative Islamic Newspaper.

The newspaper floated as the mouthpiece for underreported Muslims in Nigeria and across the world, has given prominence and voice to the voiceless Palestinians since the beginning of Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The newspaper dedicated its November 2023 edition to the Palestine-Gaza war, bringing together all pro-palestinian rallies, press conferences where leading Muslim organizations and human groups demanded immediate end to the war in Gaza which has led to the death of more than 21,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The newspaper also celebrates unreported Muslim achievers in different professions through her annual awards, ‘Global and Nigerian Muslim Personalities of the Year’ #NMA.

Some of her past winners included the immediate former Nigerian Minister of Communications, Prof. Isa Pantami; the current Borno State Gov, Prof. Babagana Zulum; Islam Channel Founder, Mohamed Ali Harrath, Turkiye President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and a host of others.
