• As AMIS conducts unified mock exam for 13,000 students in Oyo
Secretary General of the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS), Oyo State Chapter, Mallam Dhulkifli Abdul Azeez Olabiyi, has identified examination malpractice as the cause of academic backwardness in Nigeria.
He explained that the scourge does not allow schools to produce students with an analytical, critical and independent mindset.
The General Secretary stated this on Saturday, March 9, 2024, when the Islamic model school owners conducted the 11th edition of the annual AMIS unified primary examination.
Muslim News gathered that the examination attracted 13,000 pupils from the 33 local governments in Oyo state.
The examination was divided into two parts, with the first paper comprising Mathematics, Quantitative Reasoning, Basic Science and Technology and Computer Studies. The second paper included English Studies, Verbal Reasoning, Islamic Studies and General Studies.
The Chief Examiner noted that it’s a yearly exercise that brings together Primary Six students of all model Islamic schools in the state to sit a unified examination.
He, therefore, advised the students to do away with examination malpractice as true ambassadors of Islam.
“If there is anything to run away from as a good ambassador of Islam, it is to shun examination malpractice. It can kill your self-confidence. It is defined as any deliberate act of wrongdoing, contrary to the rules of examinations designed to give a candidate an unfair advantage. It is a major reason why the nation is backwards academically as it fails to produce students that can think analytically, critically and independently,” he said.
Mallam Dhulkifli, who also served as the Chief Examiner, noted that AMIS would not compromise hard work for dishonesty.
He further explained that the mock examination is to prepare the students for external examinations.
“This mock exam marks the end of yet another extraordinary chapter in your lives. With this chapter closed, I am certain that many of you are already anxious about starting the next chapter of your lives. We all have our book of life that has not yet been written and every day that passes is another page that we write for ourselves. Luckily, you as pupils from AMIS member schools have been given the paper and ink. You need to write your own stories. With the help of Allah, your stories will become best sellers,” the Chief Examiner said.
He advised the students to put in their best having worked so hard to prepare for the exam.
“You have worked hard for your examination, so give your best effort. Stay calm and be positive. Have faith in God. Keep achieving and making us proud. I am sure you will clear this exam with flying colours. Go in gently, search for your seat numbers, get seated, expect the examination materials, follow and act following the exam’s rules and regulations from the supervisor and remember to say a prayer before you start.”
