One of Nigeria’s foremost faith-based non-governmental organisations, The Muslim Congress (TMC) has announced a new date for the commissioning of its International Muslim Cemetery (IMC), now re-scheduled for Sunday, August 25, 2024.
The group, through its National Amir, Alhaji Abdul Wasi’ Bangbala, had earlier announced that the much anticipated event would hold tomorrow, Sunday, June 30, at the cemetery location at Iberekodo village, behind NNPC Mosimi depot, Sagamu LGA, Ogun State.
Muslim News, however, gathered that the ceremony which is expected to be attended by leading lights of Islam in Nigeria will no longer hold tomorrow, Sunday 30th June, due to logistical reasons.
The organiser has therefore picked Sunday, August 25, 2024 as the new date for the smooth execution of this significant event.
Commenting on the new development, Alhaji Bangbala sincerely expressed his unreserved apology to dignitaries expected at the significant event, saying that their presence as Guests of Honour continue to be of utmost importance to the organisation and contributes greatly to the success of the highly anticipated event.
Muslim News further learnt that apart from the rescheduled date, other details of the event including the keynote speeches, the official unveiling of the cemetery and a guided tour of the facilities remain unchanged.
Some of the guests include the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III and Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Alhaja Noimot Salako-Oyedele among others.
Bangbala, while reiterating the significance of the occasion, said the cemetery “stands as a revered final resting place for the departed.”
He added that it offers solace and closure to the families and loved ones of the dead.
“The lack of such facilities has posed great challenges for the Muslim community, particularly in the Southwest.
“In the light of this, we urge the authorities, especially in Ogun State, to address the need for improvement in the access road leading to the cemetery via the Mosimi-Moro-Iraye Road, off Ikorodu-Sagamu road.
“This cemetery holds immense importance for the Muslim community,” Bangbala said.
“TMC, a registered faith-based non-governmental Islamic organisation, remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the community.
“It will also provide essential support at the grassroots level,” Amir Bangbala said.
