APC leader warns Nigerians, says protest may have negative consequences

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni has declared that the planned protest across the country may have negative consequences on the economy and other areas of human endeavors.

Mumuni made this declaration via a statement signed by his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar, a copy of which was made available to Muslim News on Friday.

Our correspondent gathered that a nationwide protest over the scarcity of food and other items has been fixed to hold on 1st August this year.

But, Mumuni in his reaction, appealed to the people involved to embrace dialogue to resolve the issues.

The APC chieftain in the statement said that the protest is capable of having negative consequences on the economy of the country.

Mumuni said that the protest may escalate into violent clashes if not properly coordinated.

He then used the opportunity to appeal to the people involved to shelve the planned protest in the interest of the general public.

The APC chieftain, while speaking further, enjoined the government to dialogue with the people involved.

“Dialogue is key in this kind of situation. The people involved should be able to embrace dialogue since we don’t have another country to call ours apart from Nigeria. There should be negotiation between the government and the people involved.

“A peaceful and inclusive approach is key to addressing this problem. The protesters have a right to protest but it must me done in line with the laws of the land.

“Protest will affect the economy and other social structures. The economy will not be running at that time. This will also have impact on other social structures in the country.

“Property may also be tampered or vandalized during that time. We all knew what happened during the #EndSARS protest. Some people are yet to get over it up till now.

“It may escalate into violent clashes between the protesters and security forces, as well as between different groups of protesters with opposing views.

“So, I am appealing to our people to think twice, to shelve the plan. We don’t have any other place to go to apart from Nigeria.”
