*Says true stardom, fame come through knowledge and positive action
An eminent Islamic scholar in Nigeria, Professor Al-Khidr Abdulbaqi Mohammad has been awarded the Prize for Academic Excellence and Merit.
The Iwo, Osun-state born scholar was declared winner of the coveted prize during the ceremony held recently at the Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo, Egypt under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
More than twenty personalities from Egypt, Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Morocco were honoured at the colourful event.
Muslim News gathered that Prof Al-Khidr was the only Nigerian to receive the prestigious award in the presence of a number of elites, stars, thinkers and creators in the world of art, literature, thought and philosophy.

He has delivered lectures in a number of universities, academic and intellectual centres across various Arabia countries including : Saudi, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, France and Thailand.
In an exclusive interview with Muslim News, the Director, Nigerian Centre for Arabic Research, Nigeria, expressed his appreciation to Almighty Allah, without forgetting the immeasurable role of his late father.
According to him, “I feel really happy and thank God who helped me in my academic life. All thanks to God, then I pray for mercy for our father, Sheikh Abdul Baqi. He always urged us to seek more knowledge.
Prof Al-Khidr said he was shortlisted for the award by the scientific committee for screening candidate as a result of his many scientific contributions in the field of the Arabic language, culture and thought and his distinguished attendance at many international symposiums in various scientific specializations.

The respected scholar who had previously received honors from many countries such as Morocco, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, said this award has the advantage and prestige that it comes from Egypt, a country of civilization, science, culture and literature.
Prof Al-Khidr – who was also one of guests of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Programme for Hajj 2024, said the only way to achieve true stardom and fame is through knowledge and positive action.
“My message to the students of Arab sciences and to the scholars in our country is that there is no way to renaissance and to achieve true stardom and fame except through knowledge and positive action, and I demand the rejection of division, personal differences, and fanaticism in schools, sheikhs, and cities.”

Prof Al-Khidr, Consultant, African Readings Magazine, Riyadh, disclosed his next big project as “African Arabist Renaissance”, which he said he has been working on for years.
“The project will reveal how the situation of intellectuals in the Arabic language is revived and their conditions improved intellectually, scientifically, and culturally. This is what we are translating into practice through the Nigerian Center for Arabic Research, of which I am the director, and with us are professors, scholars, and researchers from Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African countries.”
