Nigerians including family and friends have continued to pen glowing tributes following the passing of Hajia Hasanat Sogbesan-AbdurRasheed, the Managing Director, New Crescent International Travels Ltd.

The sad news, which came to many as a shock, was contained in a statement issued by the company’s General Manager, Alh Jabar Sanni, shortly after her death on Saturday, September 28.

The message read, “INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAJI’UN. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Managing Director, Hajia Hasanat Sogbesan-AbdurRasheed.

“She passed away early this morning (Saturday),” the statement read in part.

It added that the late philanthropist has been buried in accordance to Islamic rites on the same date at Mainland Muslim Cemetery, Ofada.

Muslim News gathered that a special prayer session will be organised for the late Hasanat by the management of the company on Monday, 30th September 2024 at 48, Eyinogun Street, Oshodi, Lagos, by 4:20 pm – 5:30 pm (Nigerian time).

“We solicit your presence and prayers as we continue to seek solace and comfort during this difficult time. May Allah grant her eternal rest and console her family and loved ones. Thank you for your support and solidarity” the statement added.

Nigerians mourn, pay glowing tributes

Since the announcement of her death, many Nigerians have continued to mourn the late MD of New Crescent International Travels Ltd, who also founded a charity foundation that supported petty traders with cash and vocational equipments.

Shifau Abdul-Quadri – Alamutu described Hajia Hasanat Shogesan as one of the most accommodating, encouraging and intelligent people she ever met.

She said, “The late Hasana facilitated getting my dream books (The complete set of Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Fatawa Islamiyyah, Riyadus – Saliheen…) through installment payment.

She is an enviable model, patient, diligent and full of noble characters. May Allāh forgive her shortcomings, shower His mercy on her and admit her into Aljannatul Firdaos. We will forever miss her.”

In his tribute, Dr Taofeek Olusola Ayinde mourned the passing of Hajia Hasana, saying that the Ummah has lost a rare gem, an image-maker and a philanthropist par excellence.

“With an infectious character and unbridled humility, the late Sister Hasanat Sogbesan has attracted so many to the pristine Islam,” he wrote.

Dr Jimoh Mufutau Oluwasegun, in a tribute, condoled with the family of the late MD of New Crescent Travels, saying, “She was a caring friend, compassionate sister, and dutiful wife. As an undergraduate student of OOU, she cared for me and Rasak Okunubi and accommodated our troubles with smile.”

In a lengthy tribute, Pharm. Halimat Adedeji-Adenola also mourned the passage of Hajia Hasana whom she glowingly described as her “School Mother, a Heroine, and Guiding Light”.

She wrote, “In life, we meet people who shape us, nurture us, and guide us along the path that leads to our growth. Aunty Hassanah, you were one of those rare souls who left a mark that time cannot erase.

When I first gained admission to OOU for my pre-degree, I remember how I entered that phase of my life— wearing a scarf, with my heart full of hope and a cautious spirit. I was careful about the company I kept, not wanting anyone to push me into something I wasn’t ready for, especially when it came to the hijab. But then, you came into my life, alongside Sis Lateefah, Sis Habeebah, and Br. Mustafa, and together, you helped me grow—spiritually, emotionally, and in my career. You didn’t force me, but your presence, your kindness, and your example guided me gently, helping me find my way.

“Anti Hasanat, you still called me less than a month ago when I sent a message about my next career growth. We discussed for a long time, sharing my thoughts, and you promised, as always, to give your support (as usual, darlyn sis). Whenever I was with you, I felt free to say anything, even the “rubbish” thoughts, and we laughed it off.

“Losing you has been overwhelming. My daddy had to ask my mummy to stay with me since yesterday because I couldn’t bear the weight of losing you, especially after already enduring the pain of losing my mother-in-law, my dear support system, on May 3rd this year. It feels like the world has tilted, and I am struggling to find my balance without the strong pillars in my life.

“As you were laid to rest yesterday, the flood of words people shared about your kindness, your dedication, and your unwavering beliefs filled my heart with both pride and sadness. You were the embodiment of hard work, resilience, and faith. Even at the peak of your career, you never wavered in your commitment to your beliefs. You showed us all what it means to live a life of purpose and integrity.

“AlhamduliLah robil alameen for your life, Anti Hasanat. I thank Allah for sending you into my life, even if our time together feels too short. You came, you impacted, and you left a legacy that will continue to inspire us. May Allah forgive you, have mercy on your soul, and illuminate your grave. May He accept you as one of His beloved servants.

“I love you, and I miss you already. You were, and will always be, a heroine in my life.”
