Vanguards Academy, a faith-based secondary school in Odosengolu, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State has won the 12th edition of the Institute Of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Catch Them Young (CTY) competition.

The annual competition which has now been won thrice in succession by Vanguards Academy is organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Ijebu-Ode District Society.

At the grand finale, held on Wednesday 6th November, 2024 at the Institute’s Secretariat, Imodi-Mosan Ijebu, Ogun State, Obasesan Yusuf Jafar, who represented the school, emerged overall best with 115 points, defeating students from four other schools that participated at the final stage.

Muslim News gathered that Yusuf Jafar, an SSS 3 Business Department student produced an impressive performance during the quiz competition that centered on Financial Accounting, Commerce, Economics and General Knowledge.

Jafar’s sojourn to victory began early this year when he, alongside Okuneye Maryam represented Vanguards Academy at the first stage of the competition, where they both emerged second and first positions, respectively.

They brilliantly outsmarted seven schools of 14 candidates in the keen competition.

Mrs Abass Shakirah, Head of Department (HOD), Business Department, Senior School, who coordinated the students said, “Maryam, who came first won the best candidate in Commerce, while Jafar, who came second, won the best in Financial Accounting, during the group stage.

“For the second stage, we were expected to present one candidate that would represent our school despite emerging first and runner-up.

“The organisers wanted schools that qualified for the final stage to present one candidate each. So, we presented Jafar. Alhamdulillah, he is the winner and he is going to represent the District at the State Competition.”

Muslim News correspondent learnt that this is the third successive year Vanguards Academy will be winning the competition, targeted towards encouraging young people to embrace the accounting profession.

The school’s success story at the yearly competition has continued to elicit praises and commendations from netizens.

AbdulWaasi Muddaththir said, “They should just bring the ICAN CTY headquarters to Vanguards Academy since they’ve been winning it year-in year-out.”

Adedeji Bisiriyu Olalekan said, “Congratulations to the Obasesans and to the entire Vanguards family.”

Oluwashola Popoola said, “Alhamdullilah for the success. Greater heights in shaa Allah. And thanks for representing the school positively. Special appreciation to the organisers of the competition in ensuring that education is promoted as against immorality.”

Extending congratulations to the school, Muslimat O Shanu said, “Congratulations. More success in your future endeavours. Barakallahu fihi.
