The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Eti-Osa Area Council, under Lagos State Area Unit, has emphasised the importance of wearing the hijab among young girls, highlighting its role in protecting their honor, dignity, and integrity.
The Amirah of the Council, Hajia Maryam Solate Eshinlokun, made the call at this year’s Sisters’ Seminar held on Sunday, February 9, at Olomu Central Mosque, urging women and students to uphold the teachings of Islam by adhering to the principles of hijab.
Eti-Osa was among the 45 active area councils in Lagos State that held the annual event at their respective locations with a unified theme, ‘To The One I Belong’.
She encouraged parents and guardians to promote hijab wearing as an essential part of their daughters’ upbringing.
According to her, the hijab is a right of every female child and serves as a shield against immorality and assault due to the sanctity it represents.
Hajia Eshinlokun noted that the theme was chosen to rekindle awareness among sisters regarding their responsibilities toward their Lord and communities.
“It’s important to belong to a group that reminds us of Allah, because indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him, we will return,” she said.
It’ll empower young Muslims on positive understanding of Islam: Solate
Speaking on the theme, the Deputy Director of Legal at LSLGC and Head of the Legal Unit for Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Modinat Omobolanle Solate emphasized that the program aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by young Muslim females and explore ways to address these issues.
She stated that the program will empower young Muslim females to understand Islam and positively impact their communities with good moral and religious teachings.
Barrister Solate urged individuals, especially sisters, to recognize their identity and aspirations in life, as this will guide their relationships and associations.
Young Muslims must be upright: Hajia Alajiki Rasheedat
Hajia Kareem Rashidat Alajiki, the Proprietress of Noble Choice Schools in Ibeju-Lekki, who spoke on “HIJAB UNSILENCED,” expressed her gratitude to Allah for initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the hijab amidst various threats.
She noted that “the hijabis will remain unsilenced when young Muslim females are religiously upright.”
Hajia Rafia Tijani, the Amirah of MSSN Lagos State Area Unit, represented by Hajia Amirah Ahmad, remarked that hijab stigmatisation has been a long-standing issue, stating that the association will continue to address this challenge until it is minimized.
She added that the recent World Hijab Day celebrates the strength, beauty, and empowerment of all Muslim women.
“The hijab is more than just a piece of cloth that Muslim women wear to symbolize their faith. It does not represent oppression,” she said.
Students expressed their gratitude to the MSSN Eti-Osa Area Council for equipping them with knowledge about Islam.
Maryam Abdulkabir noted that the program has empowered her with an understanding of the hijab, describing it as a guide and spiritual symbol that connects her to her faith.
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Eti-Osa Area, reaffirmed its commitment to guiding every Muslim student toward the path of peace.
