* Shuts down performances, prioritises Ibadah in blessed month

Renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Sulaimon Alao Adekunle famously addressed as Malaika has reaffirmed his deep spiritual convictions, sharing how he stays devoted to his faith even as he thrives in the music industry.

In an exclusive with Muslim News, the celebrated artiste spoke about his devotion and discipline in Ramadan, his commitment to prayers, and the divine inspiration behind his music.

Ramadan: A month of dedication

As an entertainer, Malaika is no stranger to the demands of his career. However, when it comes to Ramadan, he puts everything aside to focus on his spiritual growth.

“Ramadan is very important to all Muslims around the world. Allah has made it compulsory for all of us. As a true Muslim, I understand this fact. We perform at events for eleven months, and only one month is set aside for fasting. So, we must obey Allah,” he stated.

To fully immerse himself in the sacred period, Malaika shuts down all musical performances for the entire 29/30 days, prioritizing prayer and self-reflection over entertainment.

“For the entire 29/30 days of Ramadan, I do not perform at events. I close my bookings as my personal way of showing gratitude to Allah. This month is dedicated to prayers and worship. As a Fuji artiste, I rever Allah, obey His ordinances and never joke with my five daily prayers.”

Strengthening Faith Through Fasting and Umrah

Beyond abstaining from performances, the fuji maestro takes his devotion a step further by embarking on a lesser hajj – umrah, using the opportunity to pray for all.

“Ramadan helps me to pray a lot and strengthens my connection with Allah. During this period, I also travel for umrah, where I pray for my fans and my country. Nigeria needs good leadership, and I use this sacred period to ask Allah for guidance and blessings for our nation.”

A Career Built on Faith, Not Vices

The music industry is often associated with influences such as drugs and alcohol, but Malaika proudly sets himself apart. He attributes his success and creativity to divine inspiration.

“I have never tasted alcohol in my life and I get my inspiration from Allah – He is the ultimate Giver. He is the Beginning and the End. That is why my music does not contain lewd lyrics. Instead, I find motivation in the good people around me and the positive energy they bring.”

Alao Adekunle’s firm stand against negativism and wrong influences in the entertainment industry because of his deep-rooted spirituality continues to make him a role model for aspiring artistes. His story is a testament to the fact that faith and artistry can harmoniously coexist, proving that greatness can truly be achieved while staying true to religious values.
