* Calls for moderation in celebration
As Muslims across the world observe the Eid-el-Fitr 1446 AH on Sunday, Muslim News Nigeria has called for modest celebrations in honour of the underprivileged and the oppressed people of Palestine.
A number of countries including Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye declared the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal on the eve of Saturday, March 29, 2025, heralding the Eid-el-Fitr.
Some other countries such as Egypt, Ghana, Malaysia will celebrate their Eid on Monday after reporting negative sighting of the moon.
In a statement issued on the dawn of the festivity, the newspaper’s publisher, Rasheed Abubakar urged Muslim faithful to embrace moderation and shun actions that represent extravagance and insensitivity.
“We should essentially refrain from actions that represent extravagance and insensitivity, including the wasting of food and drinks. This is in honour of the less privileged people who are finding it difficult to feed during this period of harsh global economic realities, and especially our brothers in Palestine, who have been under occupation by the Israeli regime and are living in penury,” the statement said.
Abubakar added that Muslims should spend the season sharing gifts and extending love to their brothers.
“This season and beyond, we should be generous and show love to people around us by sharing gifts, food, drinks, and other essential material for them to have a splendid Eid celebration,” he added.
