YABATECH Rector reunites with Mentor, Zikrullah Hassan, at Post-Ramadan Special Jum’ah

L-R: Dr. Adebakin, Dr. Abdul and Alhaji Hassan on their way to the administrative office of Rector

* Celebrates milestone visit of Ex-NAHCON boss, recounts decades-long mentorship

Friday, 11th April will remain a memorable day in the life of the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) Muslim Community, particularly for the Rector of the institution, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul.

The day marked a heartfelt reunion with one of his long-time mentors, Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, the former Chairman/CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), who was invited as the guest imam at the institution’s annual Post-Ramadan Special Jum’ah.

Members of the Muslim community (students and staff) in their thousands thronged the institution’s temporary mosque for the special Jum’ah service which featured a soul-stirring Khutbah delivered by Alhaji Hassan on the theme: “Lessons from Ramadan 1446 AH: Sustaining Spiritual Growth.”

The former NAHCON boss emphasized the importance of maintaining the spiritual momentum and discipline cultivated during the holy month of Ramadan in everyday life. Read details of his sermon HERE and watch our live streaming of the Khutbah HERE.

Following the Khutbah, Alhaji Hassan was warmly received by the Rector at his expansive administrative office. The Chairman of the Muslim Community, Dr Moruf Adebakin; Chairman Ramadan Committee, Dr. Ojokuku Sikiru and the school’s Chief Imam, Raji Abdulahafeez were also present at the reception.

Muslim News gathered that the discussions that ensued revolved around the future of the institution, including the federal government’s plan to upgrade YABATECH into a full-fledged university.

They also deliberated on strategies to raise funds for the completion of the school’s ongoing mosque project, which is expected to have Islamic center and other modern facilities for spiritual and educational purposes.

In his remarks, Alhaji Hassan, who was one time National Amir (President) of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) commended Dr. Abdul for his visionary leadership and the strides made in repositioning the institution.

He noted the historic significance of Dr. Abdul’s appointment as the first Muslim Rector in the school’s history and expressed pride in the progress recorded under his administration.

The Rector, visibly elated, expressed deep appreciation for Alhaji Hassan’s visit and acknowledged the profound impact he had on his life.

“When I gained admission into the University of Lagos, he was among those who mentored me on what it means to be an ideal Muslim,” he said, adding, “That guidance has stayed with me ever since. I graduated as a Muslim and as an Engineer, and I remain grateful for that foundation.”

He continued, “It’s a great honour to have him with us today as our guest Imam for the Post-Ramadan Special Jum’ah. His khutbah was not only insightful but also spiritually uplifting. As always, his melodious recitation of the Qur’an deeply resonated with all in attendance.”

As the event came to a close, the Rector joined by the leadership of the Muslim community prayed for Allah to grant Alhaji Hassan long life and continued strength in the service of Islam and the Muslim Ummah.

“We ask Allah to preserve his life and allow him to continue inspiring generations with his knowledge, leadership, and devotion. Al-Fatiha,” they concluded.
