Islamic Institute graduates nine Qur’an reciters, honours Yabatech Rector, others

Students of the madrasah during their recitations

By AbdulMumin AbdulQuadri

An Islamic learning centre, Mahdu Thaqoofatil Islamiyyah Li-Tahleemil Arobiy Al-Islamiy, has graduated 9 students in what was its first (walimat) celebration for the perfection of Qur’an recitation.

Mahdu Thaqoofah also known as Institute of Islamic Civilization is located in Itele, Ogun State, and it hosted the historic event on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Muslim News gathered that 6 of the graduands are males, while the remaining 3 are females.

Graduands

Their names obtained by our medium are: Adeleke Fawaz, Abduljelil Mubarak, Albarka Sofiyat, Abdulhakeem Idris, Awwal Abdurrahmon, Olalekan Halimoh, Adeleke Faruq, Yushau Hawau, and Ibraheem Abdussalam.

Speaking at the event, renowned Muslim scholar, Sheikh Luqman Abdulmajeed Eleha, emphasised the need for Muslims to prioritise the learning of the Qur’an, regardless of their age and social status.

“The Prophet (PBUH) started the Qur’an after he was forty, so you and I don’t have any excuse. Go and learn the Qur’an, no matter how old you are. We go for part-time programmes, take professional courses. Yes, all those may be required to upgrade our CVs and boost our paychecks, but we ignore our rank in the hereafter,” Sheikh Eleha remarked.

“The Qur’an has remained unaltered over time despite changing societal values. It has remained in its original form because Allah says He has revealed it, and He is its protector. In that light, whoever holds on to the Qur’an becomes dignified. Such a person will not only derive the gains in this world but also in the hereafter.”

Sheikh Luqman Eleha, who is also the Mudir Markaz El mojeed and El mojeed Foundation international, urged the graduands to live by the Qur’an that they’ve learnt, noting they must be mindful for it not to be a testament against them on the Day of Qiyaamah.

“This is not the end of your interaction with the Qur’an. You must relate with it every day and live in accordance with its message. If you hadn’t learnt the Qur’an, it would have been a different thing, but now that you have known how to read the Qur’an, you have to be very mindful so that it won’t testify against you in the hereafter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Islamic learning centre honoured six personalities for their commitment and contributions to the growth of Islam.

Among them is the Rector of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr. Ibraheem Abdul.

The awardees were also said to be hugely instrumental to the development of Mahdu Thaqafah.

Others include: Alhaji Mutiu Adelu, Alhaji Adenekan Jamiu Aremu, Alhaja Faoziyyah Idris, Alhaji Shamsudeen Animashaun, and Alhaji Mutoir Bashir.

In his own remarks, the mudeer (director) of the centre, Ustadh AbdulJelil Ghazali Eleshin, said he established Mahdu Thaqafah to raise young people who understand and embody pristine Islamic values.

“Alhamdulillah, we ideated Mahdu Thaqafah, and Allah made its establishment possible,” he said.

“The children we train today will become trainers of our own children tomorrow. This will, in turn, better our society, puncture the vices therein, and promote human dignity.”

Ustadh AbdulJelil added that the vision of the centre which was founded in 2021 is to be a leading institute that raise sound and upright individuals who will impact the society positively.

The mudeer explained that the centre also offers training on digital literacy to the students.

“The knowledge of the Qur’an does not stop them from becoming engineers, doctors, or anything they wish to become. We set their feet on the path of righteousness and arouse their consciousness.

“We train and expose them to technology, so that they’ll be relevant to society in the nearest future. Computer education is one of the subjects our students are taught at Mahdu Thaqafah, and they are enlightened about current realities.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Muslim News Nigeria for being their media partner. “May Allah continually grow the establishment in leaps and bounds,” he prayed.
