The First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, donated seven hybrid 14-seater buses to the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICA) during a presentation ceremony at the State House, Abuja.
Reacting to the gesture, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic human rights organization, has urged the First Lady to extend similar acts of generosity to Nigerian Muslims, especially in light of previous donations made to Christian communities.
This call was made in a statement released on Saturday, 31st May, 2025, by the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
“While we congratulate YOWICA on the presentation, we urge the First Lady to include Nigerian Muslims also when giving and sharing. The First Lady is the mother of the nation — to both Christians and Muslims. It is therefore expected that she would extend her milk of kindness to the Muslims as well,” the statement read.
Akintola acknowledged Senator Tinubu’s charitable efforts, including the donation of 22,800 bags of rice to Christians in 19 northern states during the 2024 Christmas and New Year season, describing her generosity as commendable.
He noted that although Muslims did not receive palliatives during the 2025 Ramadan, MURIC remains hopeful that the First Lady’s support for the Muslim community is forthcoming.
“Palliatives and hybrid buses for Muslims are on the way from the same Mother of the Nation. We have every reason to believe that we will not be disappointed because the Tinubu family has always been a giving and caring family long before they occupied the Villa,” Akintola stated.
