The Jama’atu Nasril Islam Nigeria under the leadership of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III’ has extended warm felicitations to the Nigerian Muslims and across the world as they mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year (Hijri 1447).
The JNI Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, stated this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna, calling for the de-escalation of global conflicts especially between Iran and Israel.
Aliyu said, “This sacred month holds significant importance in the Islamic calendar, being one of the four months forbidden for engaging in vices and wars. The Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar has issued a heartfelt appeal to world leaders to de-escalate conflicts, particularly the Iran-Israel tensions, for the sake of global stability and peace. Nigerian Muslims are encouraged to rededicate themselves to Allah, remaining God-fearing, law-abiding, and peaceful.”
Aliyu urged the muslims to observe the voluntary fasting of Tasu’a and ‘Ashura on July 4 – 5 .
He said that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) emphasised the importance of fasting during Muharram, stating that it was the best fast after Ramadan.
The JNI also called for fervent prayers for Nigeria’s betterment, peace, and security.
Aliyu added, “The Muslims are encouraged to continuously seek Allah’s forgiveness, guidance, and protection.”
The organisation also implored Allah to provide merciful intervention to Muslim refugees and Internally Displaced Persons worldwide.
Aliyu said, “As the Muslims celebrate the new Hijri year, they are reminded of the importance of servitude to Allah, piety, commitment, and positive change.”
He emphasised the need for respect for constituted authorities and called for good governance without bias
Aliyu said, “May this new year bring abundant blessings and prosperity to the Muslim Ummah worldwide.”
