* As AbdulMajeed Orolade marries Sherifat Oshoala
The Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque, Lekki, Lagos, Sheikh Dr. Jamiu Ridwan has urged couples to uphold cleanliness, hard work, mutual respect and gratitude as essential pillars for a lasting and happy marriage.
Sheikh Jamiu made the call on Saturday, August 9 at the Aqdu-n-Walimatun Nikaah between AbdulMajeed Orolade and Sherifat Oshoala, who is a younger sister to Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala
Muslim News gathered that the solemnisation held at the Lekki Central Mosque was conducted in the mosque premises, while the reception was held in the mosque hall, attracting family members, friends, and well-wishers.
During the Aqdu-n-Nikkah, Imam Jamiu sought the consent of both bride and groom, as well as their parents, who publicly expressed their approval.
He inquired about the dowry, which had been settled in private, and witnesses confirmed the marriage before offering prayers for Allah’s blessings on the union.
Maintain cleanliness, avoid comparison: Imam Jamiu
In his lecture, Imam Jamiu reminded the congregation that the ultimate purpose of human creation is to worship Allah, with other life pursuits, such as education, work and marriage, following as necessities.
He stressed the importance of marrying within the faith, commending the union of AbdulMajeed and Sherifat as a model.
The respected Muslim scholar advised the couple to maintain cleanliness, avoid laziness in fulfilling their roles and show respect to each other and their families.
He further encouraged them to regularly show appreciation for even the smallest acts, such as complimenting a spouse’s appearance, warning against the habit of comparing one’s spouse to others.
Instead, he urged them to thank Allah for uniting them and to avoid anger, approaching each other with patience and calmness.
The reception featured prayers, cake cutting, nasheed, light games, and a feast of food and drinks, creating a joyous atmosphere.
Getting married to AbdulMajeed feels like an achievement: Bride
For the elated bride, the day was the culmination of nine years of friendship with her beau, which began at the University of Lagos. She recalled meeting AbdulMajeed, praising his kindness not only to her but to his loved ones.
A First Class graduate in Mass Communication with an MSc (Distinction) in the same discipline, Sherifat works in the tech industry as an analyst and pre-sales enablement manager for a German firm.
She described her marriage to AbdulMajeed as an achievement, expressed hopes of further upskilling and progressing in her career.
According to her, “It feels good, but good is an understatement. Being with someone for about nine years of friendship, I have been looking forward to marriage ever since we met because I knew from scratch that it wasn’t ordinary. It feels like an achievement.
“Now that I’m married, I believe my husband and I will multiply in various aspects of our lives, supporting each other to achieve our dreams by the grace of Allah. Two is definitely better than one,” she added.
Getting to my best friend is blessing, amazing feeling: Groom
The groom, also a first class graduate of Mass Communication at UNILAG, described the marriage as “a blessing” and “an amazing feeling,” saying he was grateful to marry his best friend.
According to him, “I give thanks to Allah. It feels really amazing to be married. I feel a lot of love surrounding my life. I feel a lot of joy in my heart that I am married to the love of my life; someone who has always been there for me as a best friend. I am married to the kindest person I have met in my life. I feel blessed, feel so lucky, and I pray that Allah makes this amazing feeling and love last forever in this life and the next.”
He recounted how they met in the Mass Communication department, first interacting during his faculty PRO campaign, and later exchanging numbers at the university library. “Allah blessed us with love that grew and He eventually crowned it with marriage,” he said.
AbdulMajeed serves as a Digital Account Manager at Duo Libra Nigeria, managing digital marketing for OPPO, including online campaigns, social media strategies, and performance optimization through advanced analytics.
I’m delighted with my son’s choice of a life partner: Groom’s father
The groom’s father, Orolade Sharafadeen Dotun, expressed delight with his son’s choice of a life partner, describing her as “excellently perfect. All thanks and praises are due to Allah for having her to be my son’s wife.”
He advised the couple to embrace honesty, patience, and understanding, while resisting the urge to compare their relationship with others.
Drawing from his own 34 years of marriage, he reflected, “Whenever she is not around, it’s like the whole house is in disarray. This is to tell you how important she is in my life.”
Bride shares touching reflection from her Dad
The bride also shared touching reflections on her father’s emotional moments ahead of the wedding, particularly as August 9 coincided with her late mother’s birthday. She revealed that her mother had known and teased her about AbdulMajeed before her passing, and that her father wanted the date in honour of his wife’s memory.
She said her father’s wish was that they never relent in their faith and education, serving Allah through their marriage.
The celebration ended in a spirit of gratitude and joy as family, friends, and well-wishers prayed for a blissful and prosperous journey ahead for the couple.
