A Hamas source tells Al Jazeera the attack happened as a negotiating team was discussing a Gaza ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States.
Multiple explosions were reported in Qatar’s capital Doha this afternoon followed by plumes of smoke rise above an areas where some of the embassies are located.
In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed it targeted Hamas officials in Qatar’s capital.
A Hamas source told Al Jazeera that the attack targeted Hamas negotiating team. The attack came as negotiators from Hamas were meeting to consider the latest ceasefire proposal put forth by the United States.
Spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the “criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms and a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents of Qatar”.

Iran calls Israeli strike in Doha violation of international law
A spokesperson for the Iranian foreign ministry has slammed the Israeli attack targeting Hamas officials in Doha as a “dangerous” violation of international law, according to Iranian media.
“This extremely dangerous and criminal action is a gross violation of all international rules and regulations, a violation of Qatar’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told state TV.
