The 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings have been unveiled, and history was made as four Muslim players secured places among the top six, with Ousmane Dembélé crowned the overall winner.
This year’s award not only celebrates footballing excellence but also highlights the growing influence of Muslim players on the global stage.
Dembélé, the French Muslim forward who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, emerged as the winner of the world’s most prestigious individual football award. His extraordinary performances, particularly in leading PSG to their first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph, ensured he edged past Barcelona’s wonderkid, Lamine Yamal, who finished second.
2. Lamine Yamal, though only 18, has already become a household name in football. The Spanish forward of Moroccan heritage dazzled throughout the season with his creativity and composure, proving that he is one of the brightest young stars in the game. His second-place finish is a testament to his rising influence at Barcelona and in world football.
3. Another Muslim icon, Mohamed Salah, finished in fourth place. Despite Liverpool’s challenges last season, the Egyptian talisman delivered yet another remarkable year, recording 29 goals and 18 assists across competitions. His consistency over the years has kept him among the world’s elite players, and his presence in the top rankings is a reminder of his enduring greatness.
4. Completing the Muslim presence in the top six is Achraf Hakimi, who came sixth after an outstanding campaign with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Moroccan right-back had a season to remember, contributing 11 goals and 15 assists — exceptional numbers for a defender — while also playing a pivotal role in PSG’s historic Champions League run.
