Renowned British scholar, Sheikh Mahmoud arrives Nigeria for MICA’s nationwide ‘Peace and Leadership Tour’

Renowned UK-based Islamic scholar and community leader, Sheikh Mohammed Mahmoud, has arrived in Nigeria for a 13-day Peace Tour aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, interfaith understanding, and youth empowerment across the country.

The tour also seeks to provide young Nigerians with a roadmap for integrating faith, self-development, and ethical leadership in an increasingly challenging global environment.

Sheikh Mahmoud disclosed details of the tour during a media interaction on Tuesday, December 16, in Lagos, shortly after his arrival.

The press briefing was attended by journalists from both mainstream and online media platforms, including Muslim News Nigeria.

Sheikh Mahmoud, one of Britain’s most prominent Muslim scholars, explained that the nationwide tour, which runs from December 16 to 29, 2025, is being organised by Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness (MICA) in conjunction with Global Peace Movement (UK), and Tahara Collectives.

According to the itinerary obtained by Muslim News Nigeria, the Peace Tour will officially commence on Wednesday, December 17, in Abuja, where the respected global scholar will engage in a series of events including Dawah study classes, youth engagements, media appearances, and a major symposium scheduled for December 20 at the NAF Conference Hall.

After his programmes in Abuja, Sheikh Mahmoud will visit Lagos and Ibadan, where events are lined up from December 21 to 25, including public lectures, youth-focused dialogues, and a special outreach in Ijebu Ode on Christmas Day.

The final leg of the tour will take place in Kaduna from December 25 to 29, featuring media engagements, Dawah sessions, and a grand symposium at Kaduna State University.

The tour, themed around fostering unity, faith-driven leadership, and correcting misconceptions about Islam, is expected to draw participants from all walks of life, particularly the youth.

Sheikh Mahmoud, known for his role in defending Muslims and calling for peace after the 2017 London mosque attack, said the visit is an opportunity to connect with Nigerian Muslims, share experiences, and work towards a peaceful and inclusive society.
