TMC rounds off four-day training, urges youth to resist modern pressures

* Advocates steadfast faith amid globalization, digital challenges

One of Nigeria’s leading faith-based organisations, The Muslim Congress (TMC), has concluded its four-day National Islamic Training Programme (NITP) with a strong call on Muslim youth to resist the moral pressures of globalization and the digital revolution, and to remain steadfast in upholding values that are pleasing to Allah.

The call was made by Sheikh Hammid Yusuf Aderemi during a lecture titled “Challenges of the Contemporary Time as It Affects the Youth”, delivered at the closing ceremony of the programme held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Vanguads Academy, Odosengolu, via Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Muslim News gathered that this year’s annual programme marked the 32nd edition of the Islamic training camp in the history of the organisation.

Sheikh Yusuf, who is the Chief imam, Fidiso Central Mosque, Abijo, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, urged Muslims to remain firm in their faith despite the increasing moral and ideological challenges of the modern era, noting that similar trials were faced by earlier generations of believers.

Lessons from the Prophets for today’s Muslims

Drawing lessons from the era of Prophet Musa (AS), the respected Muslim scholar explained how Pharaoh used oppression and manipulation to divert people from the worship of Allah by falsely claiming divinity.

He likened such historical deception to contemporary ideologies which, according to him, promote immorality and distract humanity from divine guidance.

Warning against blind reliance on the West

Sheikh Yusuf, who also serves as the Mudeer of Madrasat Terbiyat Wada’watil Islamiyat in Sangotedo, Eti-Osa, referenced the era of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), when people turned away from the worship of Allah and placed their trust in idols, relying on false gods to manage their affairs.

He warned that many Muslims today repeat the same error by placing absolute trust in the West, often believing that success and fulfilment lie solely in migration.

He called on Muslims to renew their commitment to Tawheed, stressing that only Allah possesses absolute power and control over human affairs.

TMC Amir praises discipline and exemplary conduct of delegates

Earlier in his address, the Amir (President) of TMC, Alhaji Taiwo AbdulWasi’i Bangbala, expressed appreciation to over 2,000 delegates who participated at the Ogun campsite and other concurrent camps in Edo State, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Oyo State.

He commended participants for maintaining high standards of discipline and urged them to reflect the lessons learnt during the programme in their daily lives.

The Amir also praised a delegate from Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State, Mr. AbdulHakeem Jumah, for his selfless habit of cleaning and properly disposing of litter around the camp kitchen, even when unnoticed.

Qur’an competition winners honoured

The closing ceremony also featured the presentation of prizes to winners of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, organised as part of the four-day training programme.

Abdul Sanur Adebayo from Ondo State emerged as the overall winner of the competition, clinching the first position. He was followed by Ukba Abdulakeem of Ogun State, who came second, while Saheed Abdul Rahman from Lagos State finished in third position.

Organisers of the competition explained that the initiative was designed to encourage the memorisation of the Qur’an among Muslims and to promote the preservation of the pristine teachings and values of Islam.

TMC launches digital portal

One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the TMC Digital Portal, described as a one-stop platform for the organisation’s activities.

Introducing the portal, the Naibul Amir (Vice President, Administration), Alhaji Mikail Oriolowo Animashaun, explained that members would be able to register their details and access various services online.

The portal was demonstrated to delegates by Ustadh AbdulAzeez Aderopo, TMC’s National ICT Officer.

Four-day camp ends with leadership inauguration

The theme of the 2025 NITP was “Guidance and Direction for Today’s Muslims.” The camping programme ran concurrently across four locations from Wednesday, December 24, to Sunday, December 28, 2025.

Activities during the camp included soul-lifting lectures, games, personality development sessions, and career talks. The programme climaxed with the inauguration of national and state leaders, with Alhaji Taiwo Hassan Adeshina returned as Amir, alongside the inauguration of Wulats (coordinators) and state secretaries.
