In a colourful weekday ceremony held at The Orchid Hotel, Lekki, the Oyefeso and Oladeji families united their children, Aishat Oyindamola and AbdulBasit Adetokunbo, in a solemn Aqdun-Walimatun Nikaah attended by prominent Islamic scholars, political figures, and guests from within and outside Nigeria. Eminent Islamic scholars, political leaders, professionals, and guests from across Nigeria and beyond set aside their busy schedules on Tuesday to witness the grand Aqdu -n- Nikaah of Aishat Oyindamola Oladeji and AbdulBasit Adetokunbo Oyefeso, children of Alhaji Abdulkabir and Alhaja Saidat Oladeji and Alhaji Musbau and Alhaja Fatymah Oyefeso.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, took place at the elegantly decorated hall of The Orchid Hotel, Lekki, filled to capacity by guests dressed in colourful and sophisticated attires befitting the joyous occasion.
Although Tuesday is typically a busy workday in Nigeria, the Nikaah drew an impressive array of dignitaries who came to honour the families and celebrate the union of AbdulBasit, a Hafiz of the Noble Qur’an blessed with a sonorous voice, and Aishat, a modest and devout bride admired for her commitment to the niqab.
Muslim News correspondent who witnessed the Nikaah said it was conducted strictly in accordance with Islamic injunctions, with officiating Imams leading the solemn rites amid prayers and excitement from guests.

In his lecture, popular Islamic scholar and former Chairman of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Dr. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, explained the essence of marriage in Islam as a sacred bond built on faith, love, mercy, and mutual responsibility, emphasizing that it serves as a means to attain tranquility, companionship, and closeness to Allah.
He urged the couple to learn forgiveness, accommodation and tolerance, stressing that whatever they do should be for the sake of Allah alone.
According to him, fearing Allah in dealing with one another and remaining steadfast upon the Qur’an and Sunnah are the surest guarantees of a successful marriage.
The Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, solemnised the Nikaah and officially joined the couple as husband and wife, offering prayers for a peaceful, enduring and Allah-conscious home.
He further admonished the couple to remain steadfast and always uphold what is right in line with the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Renowned Islamic scholars, leaders grace Nikaah
Among the dignitaries present were a former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is also the incumbent Senator representing Ogun central; the Senator representing Lagos-West Senatorial District, Dr. Idiat Oluranti and her husband, Alhaji Saheed Adebule, an IT expert; Mrs. Oluwakemi Alausa, wife of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; and the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Alhaji Akeem Babatunde Shittu, who chaired the reception.
Also in attendance were prominent Islamic scholars, including the founder and leader of Muhammad Rosulullah Global Family, Sheikh Ahmad Ibrahim Al-Mukhtar; former NAHCON Chairman, Sheikh Zikrullah Hassan; and Prof. Tajudeen Yusuf, President of the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (IIFP). Leaders of various Muslim organizations, including The Criterion and The Companion, led by its National Amir, Alhaji Najeem Jimoh, were also present to witness the ceremony.
Notably, while the bride’s father, Alhaji Oladeji Semiu, serves as President of the Nigerian Muslim Community in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Alhaji and Alhaja Oyefeso are former National Amir of The Companion and former National Amirah of The Criterion, respectively. They also hold the traditional titles of Aare Musulumi and Sanmori Adinni of Ijebu Land, highlighting their longstanding leadership and influence in the Muslim community.
Leaders advise couple on responsibility, prayer and building a righteous home
In her goodwill message, Dr. Adebule urged the groom to view his wife as his closest companion and confidant, emphasising his responsibility for her welfare.
She cautioned the couple against allowing outsiders into their marriage, advising them to seek counsel primarily from their parents, and prayed for Allah’s blessings and righteous offspring.
Similarly, Mrs. Alausa highlighted the centrality of prayer in marriage, encouraging the groom to remain steadfast in Allah, particularly during difficult times, including through tahajjud.
Drawing from her 30 years of marital experience, she prayed for ease, unity and success for the couple in this world and the hereafter.
Alhaji Shittu, Chairman of the reception, reminded the couple that marriage is both a Sunnah and a Qur’anic injunction, citing Qur’an 30:21 on tranquility and mercy.
He advised AbdulBasit to provide for, protect and respect his wife, while urging Aishat to respect her husband and consciously shape the home she desires. He further encouraged both to forgive one another whenever disagreements arise.
Parents celebrate union, advise couple on faith, patience and togetherness
The bride’s father, Alhaji Oladeji, described the day as profoundly special, noting that his family and the Oyefeso family have shared over 15 years of close friendship, which has now blossomed into a blessed marital bond.
He advised the couple to come together, speak together, work together and pray together, stressing that adherence to the Qur’an would keep them on the right path.
The groom’s mother, Hajia Oyefeso, expressed gratitude to Allah and appreciation to all present.
She described the marriage as Allah’s will, urging the couple to uphold patience, humility, and consistent prayers throughout their union.

Speaking with Muslim News after the solemnisation, AbdulBasit expressed excitement at finding a righteous spouse, saying he looks forward to building a blessed and meaningful future through their union.
He described Aishat as pious, soft-hearted, well-mannered, and highly compatible, qualities he cherishes deeply.
For her part, the bride thanked Allah for completing half of her deen, noting that she was drawn to AbdulBasit’s sense of responsibility, strong connection with Allah, and closeness to the Qur’an, which assured her that she had found the right partner.

Adam Adedimeji, Chairman of Lawyers in the Media (LIM), and his wife, Hajia Riskiah Adam-Adedimeji, among others.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for a home filled with love, tranquility, and enduring blessings, accompanied by a sumptuous spread of halal foods and drinks. Guests were also presented with souvenirs to serve as lasting reminders of the joyous and memorable occasion.
