Borno Gov Zulum to Chair UMA Pre-Ramadan Lecture on Islam and National Security

UMA 31st pre-Ramadan lecture

The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, will chair the 31st Pre-Ramadan Lecture of the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA), University of Lagos, scheduled to hold on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

The annual lecture, a key spiritual and intellectual gathering ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, will take place at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, UNILAG, by 10:00 a.m.

Themed “The Light Beyond: Guiding Our Souls to Paradise,” the event is expected to draw Muslim scholars, public office holders, professionals, students, and members of the wider Muslim community from across Lagos and beyond.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, will deliver the keynote address at the lecture.

Renowned Islamic scholar and Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Abuja, will speak in English on the topic “Islam and National Security: Role of Muslims in Securing Our Communities.”

The Yoruba lecture will be delivered by Imam (Dr.) Ridwan Jamiu, Chief Imam of Lekki Muslim Ummah (LEMU), Lekki Central Mosque, Lagos. His topic is titled “The Path to Paradise: How to Get There.”

Organisers described the lecture as a timely platform for spiritual rejuvenation and reflection as Muslims prepare for Ramadan, while also addressing contemporary issues affecting society, including security, morality, and communal responsibility.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Engr. Abdulfatai Bakare, Muslims were urged to attend the programme and take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and guidance to be shared by the distinguished speakers.

He noted that the Pre-Ramadan Lecture remains part of UMA’s long-standing commitment to promoting Islamic enlightenment, unity, and moral consciousness within the Muslim community.

The organisers also encouraged members of the public to attend with their families and friends for what they described as an inspiring and rewarding experience ahead of the holy month.
