The Muslim Pharmacists Association of Nigeria (MPAN), Oyo State Chapter, recently concluded a series of Ramadan activities that seamlessly blended professional integrity with a profound commitment to humanitarian service.
The programme commenced with compassionate outreach visits to the Agodi Correctional Centre and the FOMWAN Orphanage Home in the Akobo area of Ibadan, where MPAN distributed significant donations of food items, clothing materials, and domestic consumables.
These acts of charity set the stage for a spiritual journey that continued on Saturday, February 28, 2026, with a deeply insightful Tafsir delivered by Dr. Sirajudeen Femi Bakrin, the Chief Imam and University Librarian at Fountain University, Osogbo.
Hosting the session at the residence of Pharm. Kamal Bakare, CEO of Tulip Pharmacy, Dr. Sirajudeen focused on the essential qualities of a good Muslim, emphasizing the importance of unwavering Iman, the observance of timely and regular five daily prayers, the payment of Zakaat, and the consistent practice of charity.
He reminded the gathered professionals that embodying these virtues is the definitive path to guidance and success, both in this life and the hereafter.
The intellectual momentum carried forward to the flagship Ramadan Lecture held at the OTM Islamic Centre, Iwo Road, where the discourse shifted toward navigating the complexities of the modern era.
Prof. Usman Ibrahim, the Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, delivered a powerful lecture on “Faith and the Digital Age,” reminding attendees that “online anonymity does not remove divine accountability” and that every digital interaction is recorded by an ever-present observer. This was complemented by Prof. Taofeek Yekinni’s lecture on the “Islamic Ethics of Multimedia Devices,” which urged the audience to maintain a consistent moral identity across all platforms.
The speakers collectively admonished that true fasting extends beyond refraining from food to include “fasting with our fingers and eyes” by avoiding misinformation and guarding digital modesty.
This gathering of faith and intellect was graced by an array of distinguished leaders, including Prof. Abdullateef Bakare, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at OOU; Dr. Zaynul-Abideen Abd Ganiyy, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at OYHMB also standing in for the Amir of MPAN, Pharm. Hamidat Akeukereke, CEO of Humygdalin Pharmacy and Amirah of the association.
Other notable dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Monsurat Qadri of Federal Medical Centre, Epe, Dr. Khadijat Owodunni of UCH, Dr. Sulayman Saka, and Dr. Fatima Sanusi of OOU, alongside industry veterans like Pharm. Taofeek Odukoya, CEO, Vanguard Pharmacy, Pharm. Yasir Gafar, Pharm. Luqman Oyeleye, and Pharm. Akinwande Luqman.
The programme witnessed large turnout of Muslims across all walks of life benefiting from the free medical outreach with medical screening, consultations and free drugs
Speaking at the end of the programme, Dr. Abideen Abd Ganiyy reiterated that by bridging the gap between professional excellence, social welfare, and digital responsibility, MPAN has reinforced a legacy of service that ensures their mundane life and professional standing remain instruments of reward rather than regret both in this world and the hereafter.
He admonished that members should live by what they learnt from the series of Ramadan activities round the year, even after Ramadan.
