The President-General of the Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), His Royal Highness, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, has called on Muslims to sustain the lessons learned during the recently concluded holy month of Ramadan.
Muslims across Nigeria and the world are celebrating the 2026 Eid el-Fitr (1447 A.H.), following the successful completion of 30 days of fasting, prayers, and other spiritual engagements.
Oba Matemilola, who is also the Olowu of Owu, congratulated Muslims in Ogun State and beyond for witnessing the end of Ramadan and the opportunity to celebrate Eid el-Fitr.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Social/Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Hassan Adekunle, the monarch described Ramadan as a period of intensive spiritual rejuvenation, moral discipline, and increased devotion to Allah.
He urged Muslims not to relapse into old habits but to ensure that the virtues cultivated during Ramadan, such as piety, self discipline, patience, generosity, humility, and compassion, are sustained in their daily lives.
“The Ogun State Muslim Council congratulates Muslims in Ogun State, Nigeria, and across the world on the successful completion of the 30-day intensive spiritual exercise,” he said.
“I urge Muslims to allow the lessons learned during Ramadan to reflect in their daily conduct beyond the holy month. It is by doing so that individuals, families, and society at large will continue to benefit immensely from the spiritual gains of Ramadan.”
Oba Prof. Matemilola further admonished Muslims to remain steadfast in the observance of the five daily prayers, maintain strong ties with neighbours and the wider community, and continue to engage in acts of charity and kindness, especially towards the less privileged.
He also emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, urging Muslims to live harmoniously with people of other faiths and to contribute positively to the unity, stability, and development of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
“As Muslims celebrate Eid el-Fitr and gather in large numbers at various prayer grounds to thank Almighty Allah for His mercy and favour, they should do so with moderation, responsibility, and a deep sense of gratitude,” the statement added.
The OMC President-General further called on Muslims to remember Nigeria in their prayers, especially at this critical time, and to pray for leaders at all levels for wisdom, justice, and good governance.
While wishing all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid el-Fitr celebration, Oba Matemilola prayed that Almighty Allah accepts their acts of worship, forgives their shortcomings, and grants lasting peace, progress, and prosperity to Ogun State and Nigeria.
