* Missionary, spy or US secret agent? demand for answers grow
Nigerians across religious, tribal, and political divides have called on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to investigate a foreign man identified as Alex Barbir following a series of recent violent attacks in Jos, Plateau State.
The appeal comes in the wake of the recent gunmen attacks in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, which left at least 27 people dead, including Muslims and Christians. The attackers fired sporadically, hitting residents without regard to religion.
Video footage reportedly showing Barbir at the scene of the attack has sparked outrage. In the video, he allegedly made provocative claims that the victims were primarily Christians and suggested that a genocide against Christians is ongoing in Nigeria.

He reportedly threatened President Bola Tinubu, saying he would “regret the killing of Christians,” despite evidence that both Muslims and Christians were among the victims.
Barbir has appeared in several other videos, including one with a local pastor, s. Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a former armed robber and one of the advocates of ‘Christian genocide’, promoting what critics describe as hate speech against Allah and Islamic values.

Muslim News gathered that pictures and videos circulating on social media show him alternating between military attire with a rifle and casual clothing as a missionary, raising questions about his true identity, with many asking: what is his real mission in Nigeria?
Zara Oyinye, a concerned citizen and public analyst, highlighted Barbir’s activities on social media, raising alarms about his presence at multiple attack scenes. In one post, she wrote:

“Secondly, is a call to the Attorney General of the Federation to take legal action against Alex Barbir on behalf of the president for his utterance, ‘Tinubu, you’ll regret what you are doing,’ as this is a threat to the life of Nigeria’s number one citizen.”
She also raised concerns about his rapid presence at Angwan Rukuba: “How was Alex Barbir able to find himself so quickly at the scene of the killings, having just returned from America? Is he based around Angwan Rukuba? His presence is highly suspicious.”

Other posts from Oyinye call for urgent monitoring of Barbir’s activities, citing claims that he may be affiliated with the FBI and warning that his actions could exacerbate tensions between Muslim and Christian communities in Plateau State.
Former presidential spokesperson, Bashir Ahmed echoed these concerns on Twitter, urging authorities to act swiftly: “This is a strong call on relevant authorities to urgently investigate Alex Barbir, who has been openly spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds. Authorities must ensure accountability to safeguard peace, unity, and public order.”

Pastor Okezie added: “Alex Barbir should be put on the next available flight out of Nigeria. He is actively working behind the scenes to fuel religious tension and push the country toward a full-scale religious war.”
Although a few people, especially those who believe in the alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria, have backed Barbir’s activities, one of them, Moses Ayo, said:
“Please, let’s support Alex Barbir. This is the only way other countries can know what we have been going through since 1960, after independence. If we confront the government, they won’t respond, but now that Alex has intervened in this matter, everything will proceed smoothly….”
Authorities in Plateau State, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the Plateau State Police Command, have condemned the recent attacks and are reportedly investigating all leads to prevent further violence.
