* As over 2,500 students attend April Islamic Vacation Course
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, has called on young Nigerians to shun societal distractions and embrace resilience as a cornerstone for personal growth and national development.
The Amir (President) of MSSN Lagos, Mal. Kamoldeen Abiona, gave this charge while visiting the seven zones where the 2026 April Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) was held.
The programme, themed “My Identity,” took place from April 2 to 6, 2026 (14th to 18th Shawwal, 1447AH), across seven zones in Lagos State.
The camping programme recorded an impressive turnout of over 2,500 participants, drawn from a diverse group of secondary school students, undergraduates, teachers, artisans, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
Addressing participants, Mal. Abiona emphasised that Nigeria’s growing socio-economic challenges should not weaken their commitment to Islamic values.
He maintained that sustaining spiritual excellence remains the master key to navigating and excelling in a challenging environment.
To meet present-day realities, Mal. Abiona explained that the camp’s curriculum was deliberately expanded beyond spiritual development to include practical life skills and character building.
He urged students to remain diligent in their academic pursuits and personal lives despite the prevailing economic climate.
“Don’t view your faith as a retreat from reality, but as a foundation for navigating it,” Mal. Abiona said. “One of the lessons you must take away from this camp is to be diligent and never compromise your identity because of mundane things or socio-economic challenges.”
He further clarified the organisation’s vision: “MSSN Lagos aims to raise a generation of morally upright, spiritually conscious, and socially responsible youths who will serve as catalysts for positive change in the Ummah and the wider society. This programme was designed to inspire a renewed sense of identity, purpose, and responsibility.”
The Amir also stressed the importance of discipline and time management in a rapidly changing world, noting that positive companionship and firm values are essential anchors for youth.
“This April IVC emphasises the importance of positive companionship in shaping a purposeful future,” he added.
“Participants were guided to understand their true identity as servants of Allah and were encouraged to stand firm in their faith while contributing positively to society.”
Mal. Abiona expressed optimism that the intensive training would lead to a lasting transformation among participants, fostering a new generation of leaders who are spiritually grounded and economically prepared.
