Media community mourns death of Hajia Naimat Akinreti, wife of Lagos NUJ ex-chair

The Lagos media community has been thrown into sadness following the passing of Hajia Naimat Akinreti, wife of former Lagos State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr. Qasim Akinreti.

In separate statements, the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Lagos State Chapter, Muslim News Nigeria and NUJ, Lagos State Council expressed condolences over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to both the Akinreti family and the journalism profession.

In a message signed by its Chairman, Dr. AbdulKabir Garba, the MMPN condoled with Dr. Akinreti, invoking the words of Allah: “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.” (Qur’an 2:155)

The group prayed for forgiveness for the departed soul, supplicated for Al-Jannah Firdaus, and asked Allah to grant strength and patience to the bereaved family.

Muslim News Nigeria likewise extended heartfelt sympathies to Dr. Qasim Akinreti, who is known to have served as an instructor to the publisher, Rasheed Abubakar at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ).

While mourning her passing, the organization reminded the Akinreti family and the entire Muslim Ummah of the inevitable return to Allah: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Akinreti and family at this time of loss,” the statement noted.

The NUJ Lagos Council, in a joint statement by its Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, and Secretary, Mr. Tunde Olalere, also offered heartfelt condolences. They acknowledged Dr. Akinreti’s contributions to the media industry, and remembered Hajia Naimat as a woman of kindness, support, and devotion to family and community.

“The Council shares deeply in your grief,” the statement read, “and prays that the Almighty will comfort you and grant the departed eternal rest.”
