Popular TV host and lawyer, Hajia Nymat Akashat-Zibiri, has reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to take military action against Nigeria over false Christian genocide allegation, describing the move as unjustified and disrespectful to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Speaking during the Tuesday, November 4th edition of ‘Your View’ on TVC, Hajia Akashat-Zibiri, widely known for her clarity and bold views, expressed disbelief that such a statement could come from a leader of a global power.
“The fact that Nigeria doesn’t have the military might doesn’t give Donald Trump or the U.S. the right to declare war on us. We are a sovereign nation, and such rhetoric is both dangerous and unacceptable,” she stated.
She stressed that while insecurity exists in parts of Nigeria, it does not justify external military threats, especially without any diplomatic engagement or dialogue.
“A president cannot just wake up and threaten a country like Nigeria without even calling our president. Do we have any treaty that allows the U.S. to intervene militarily on our soil without our consent?”
Hajia Akashat-Zibiri also recalled past incidents where the U.S. acted unilaterally in Nigeria, including the covert rescue of American hostages in Borno without official clearance.
She questioned the silence of Western powers when Nigeria sought help in fighting insurgency, only for those same powers to later exploit the situation for their interests.
“Where were they when we cried for help? They didn’t come. But now they’re quick to act when it suits them.”
She further criticised the ongoing neocolonial practices in Africa and the systematic exploitation of the continent’s resources.
“If they won’t help us, they should at least leave us to manage our own resources. Africa needs to be left alone, not re-colonised economically.”
Highlighting Africa’s exclusion from the UN Security Council, Hajia Akashat-Zibiri called for a reawakening across the continent:
“No African country sits on the UN Security Council. Yet we keep begging to be treated equally. It’s time to demand real sovereignty.”
She ended her remarks with a passionate call for African unity, courage, and self-determination in the face of global injustice.
