… Becomes fourth female to head Nigeria’s foremost accounting body
A distinguished Muslim professional, Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MSc, FCA, has been sworn in as the 62nd President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the country’s premier regulatory and professional accountancy body.
The investiture ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at ICAN Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos, marking the official commencement of her tenure at the helm of the over 60-year-old institution.
Muslim News gathered that Seghosime was earlier announced in April as the President-elect of ICAN, becoming only the fourth woman to attain the prestigious position since the institute was established in 1965.
The June 2 investiture ceremony officially marked the commencement of her tenure as the 62nd President and Chairman of Council of ICAN, succeeding the immediate past President, Mallam Haruna N. Yahaya.
Her emergence has been widely celebrated within professional and financial circles as a milestone for inclusivity, professional excellence, and ethical leadership in Nigeria’s accounting profession.
With more than four decades of experience spanning accounting, taxation, audit, governance, and corporate advisory services, Seghosime brings a wealth of expertise to the position. She is widely respected for her commitment to integrity, transparency, and institutional development.
A Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the new ICAN President has built an impressive career across the public and private sectors.
Her academic journey began at Auchi Polytechnic, where she obtained a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration.
She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Derby, United Kingdom, before obtaining a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Enugu State University.
Seghosime has also participated in executive education programmes at Harvard Kennedy School and is affiliated with Jesus College, Cambridge, experiences that have strengthened her understanding of global financial systems and international best practices.
Professionally, she began her career with BDO Balogun Badejo & Co. before moving to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), where she contributed significantly to Nigeria’s tax administration framework.
She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Quebban Professional Services, a strategic advisory firm providing expertise in corporate governance, taxation, compliance, and financial management.
Throughout her career, Seghosime has played key roles in several national and international institutions.
She has served within the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
Her six-year tenure at the Tax Appeal Tribunal particularly earned her recognition for fairness, professionalism, and adherence to ethical standards in resolving complex tax disputes.
Industry stakeholders have described her investiture as a significant moment for the accounting profession.
Prior to her formal assumption of office, several colleagues and professional associates praised her leadership qualities, noting that her extensive experience and track record position her to lead the institute through emerging challenges in an increasingly digital and globalised economy.
As President and Chairman of Council, Seghosime is expected to champion initiatives aimed at strengthening professional standards, promoting ethical practices, enhancing capacity development, and expanding opportunities for young accountants.
