President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Southwest governors and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, are among dignitaries expected at the 11th General Assembly of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), scheduled for November 15 at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque.
The Chairman of the 2026 General Assembly Central Planning Committee, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olawale AbdulGhaniy, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, adding that Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, is expected to deliver the annual lecture.
The General Assembly brings together leaders of Muslim organisations across the six states of the South-West geopolitical zone to discuss issues affecting the Muslim community and the activities of the umbrella body.
A major highlight of this year’s gathering is the expected leadership transition, as the incumbent president, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, prepares to leave office after six years at the helm of MUSWEN.
Oladejo assumed office on November 22, 2020, succeeding the late Dr Sakariyau Olayiwola Babalola.
The assembly is also expected to provide an opportunity for MUSWEN to mobilise support for its development initiatives, including the empowerment of less privileged people, the construction of a state-of-the-art health facility and the provision of scholarships for needy members of the Ummah.
Alhaji AbdulGhaniy appealed to Muslim philanthropists to support the organisation’s efforts to raise ₦2 billion for the projects.
MUSWEN serves as the umbrella body for Muslims in South-West Nigeria. Its primary member organisations include Muslim communities and Muslim councils across the states in the geopolitical zone.
