– 20 percent goes to Khoisan, Hauwa and Leah each
The immediate past Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has directed that the National Assembly management should distribute his severance allowance to the families of three prominent victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, Dr. Saraki said 20 percent each of his severance funds should go to the families of Hussaini Ahmed Khoisan and Hauwa Liman, two Muslim aid workers who were abducted and subsequently murdered in cold blood by Boko Haram.
The former Governor of Kwara State said another 20 percent should be given to the family of Leah Sharibu, the last Dapchi girl still held by the terrorist group, while the remaining 40 percent should be used by the National Assembly management to set up a trust fund that will assist children of deceased members of the eighth Senate who are in financial need for their education.
Dr Bukola Saraki was the Governor of Kwara State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from 2003 to 2011. He contested under the same party and won election into the Senate in 2011, representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District.
Dr Saraki was re-elected in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and rose to become the President of the eighth Senate. In the build up to the 2019 general election, he returned to PDP but lost his third term bid to return to the Senate in a keenly contested election to the APC candidate, Senator (Dr) Ibrahim Oloriegbe, ending his 16-year political sojourn as a governor, lawmaker and political generalissimo of Kwara State.
