MURIC Director reacts to son’s death, says it is test from God

The Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof Lakin Akintola has described the death of his son, Mujahid Afolabi as a test from Allah, saying that true believers shall be tested.

Since the news of the demise of the son of the human rights activist broke on Monday, many Muslims have been sending their condolences  to the family of the Akintolas.

The eloquent Islamic preacher appreciated the love and concern shown by the Muslims over what he described as ‘tragedy that is minimal’, urging them to remember his beloved son in prayers.

According to him, I have been repeating the word ‘Alhamdulilah’ since the incident occurred this afternoon, Monday, September 23, 2019. True believers shall be tested. We must continue to thank Allah for testing us in a little way.

In a statement he personally shared on social media today, Prof Lakin explained the circumstances that led to the death of the 24 year old, who has since been buried accordance with Islamic rites.

He said, “Mujahid was a 200 level Engineering student at UNILAG. His death was due to complications which arose after a kidney operation carried out about 6 months ago. He had been in excruciating pains since the surgical operation and naturally, all members of our family shared in his trauma.”

He described him as an Hafiz – memoriser of the Qur’an, whose melodious rendition of the verses of the glorious Qur’an was like a soothing balm for his soul.

Appreciating family and friends for their support, the Director of Muslim Right Concern (MURIC) also called on all to be grateful to Allah that he died a Muslim.

According to him, “Please let us take heart. let us be grateful to Allah that this tragedy is minimal. Some families have lost all their sons and daughters in one single day. Let us also thank Allah that Mujahid died a Muslim.
