How to access Jaiz Zakat Funds – Dr Abdullah Shuaib

In recent times, one of Nigeria’s leading faith-based poverty alleviation and empowerment NGO renowned for putting smiles on the faces of the needy, Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation, has been in the news for its numerous activities across the country, disbursing and empowering thousands of indigent Muslims with funds worth millions of naira.

This development has endeared the Foundation to people from all walks of life, with many seeking to benefit from the kind-hearted philanthropic gestures, prompting them to seek pathways to accessing the relief funds.

In a bid to further fulfill the Foundation’s commitment towards rendering humanitarian aid and engaging in provision of relief materials to persons and communities in distress, Dr Abdullah Shuaib, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, outlined the methods of accessing the Foundation’s Zakat funds.

In an exclusive interview with Muslim News, Dr Shuaib said the Jaiz Zakat funds can be accessed by poor and vulnerable Nigerians irrespective of their tribe or location.

According to him, “Many people have been asking, ‘how can we benefit from the Jaiz Zakat?’ The processes are very simple. They don’t need to know the CEO, the Chairman or any officer before they can access the Zakat Funds at Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation. Every information, from A to Z, is on the website jaizfoundation.org.ng”.

Speaking on the processes involved in shortlisting the would-be beneficiaries, Imam Shuaib said, “Prospective applicants can apply online, via post or better still, physically, by submitting their applications, addressed to the CEO of the Foundation, Plot 1054, O. P. Fingesi Street, Utako District, Abuja, Nigeria”.

“Their letters will be processed at the Programmer’s department before taking them to the CEO for further scrutiny. When these processes are completed, we would have discovered the would-be beneficiaries that genuinely deserve the funds. The selected beneficiaries will be notified as Zakat beneficiaries,” he added.

He said Zakat, the third pillar of Islam, can be accessed for humanitarian, educational and agricultural interventions.

“There is also Zakat opportunity for the provision of medical relief materials to needy communities across the country. Likewise, we provide entrepreneurial programs for individuals and small scale enterprises with seed funds and support them to effectively run their businesses, among others,” he added.

Dr Shuaib also stated that it’s impossible to respond to all the applications because of the limited financial resources.

Also, some of the applications might have serious cases that require huge amount of money for allocation. That would also reduce the number of would-be beneficiaries. However, the good news is that the moment processing is completed, we would get back to the successful applicants about the disbursement.

“For those with serious and urgent cases, we wouldn’t wait till the D-Day, rather, we disburse theirs quietly and as a matter of urgency,” he stated.
