GMP, MPAC stage historic, ground breaking Convention

Two leading faith-based non-governmental organisations, the Guild of Muslim Professionals (GMP) and the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) Nigeria are combining strength and resources to hold a ground breaking national convention to interrogate the direction of the world in the next 30 years.

The theme of the convention which holds in Lagos between December 25 and 26 is “The World by 2050: How Ready Are We?.”

In a statement jointly released by GMP’s Head of Convention Media Sub-Committee, Idris Lanre Ogundipe and Director, Media & Strategic Communication, MPAC, Abdulwarees Solanke, the theme is borne out of concerns over the dehumanising dynamics shaping global affairs and the future of humanity.

Muslim News findings revealed that already, the two groups have constituted a strong central working committee made up of Muslim professionals that cut across all fields to drive and deliver successfully on the epochal convention.

The committee is expected to deploy their diverse knowledge, skills and expertise in delivering an international standard convention that the Nigerian Muslim Ummah will be proud of.

According to the GMP President, Abdulhakeem Oyewale, the Guild which  has hosted six annual conventions in the past  believes Muslims should be on the same page in setting public and global agenda.

Hence GMP considered the Muslim Public Affairs Centre as sharing similar philosophy, especially with its one year old Muslim Project VIP (Voice, Identity and Participation).

Oyewole assured that GMP will leave no stone unturned in reaching out to other Muslim organizations to seek their collaboration

The Executive Chairman of MPAC, Disu Kamor, is very enthusiastic about the partnership which he is confident would set the stage for the unity of the Ummah.

He noted  that his organization as a Muslim public service agency is open to all Muslim groups once they are serving the best interest of Islam and Muslims anywhere.

Kamor cited MPAC’s partnership with the Forum for Islamic Education and Welfare and The Companion, a group of Muslims in Business and other Professions in the past to respectively and successfully host Arts Exhibition and organise national discourse.

A special in this historic joint Convention is the featuring of the Executive Director of the UK based Islam Channel, Muhammed Ali, a Muslim cable channel that’s popular in Nigeria.

A list of speakers, guests and anchors have been shopped for and selected to address a wide range of issues that touch on the quality of Muslim engagement and participation in public and global affairs.
